Was Gerald Ford a good president? Why or why not?

Not really. He was a rube.

Yes he tried to heal the country and the 25th amendment passed during his administration.

Gerald Ford was a decent President but, never having been elected to that office, he never really had much support from the Citizens.
He was replaced by one that was Far Worse.

He was a good placeholder for Nixon, but as a Republican he had no chance of winning, though we could have done worse.

He was an accidental president never elected. He was plucked out of the House by Nixon after Agnew resigned in disgrace. Ford inherited a stagnant economy with high inflation and was clueless how to address the crisis, which lasted until the early Reagan years. Auto and steel plants were closing and production moved overseas throughout the 70s and 80s. Ford did nothing to discourage it. He encouraged people to wear WIN buttons- whip inflation now. And he was shot at by crazed women and tripped a lot.

Every US President has had some redeeming virtues over the years, with the possible exception of Russian MAFIA-owned constitution-violating, corrupt to the very core incompetent lifts-wearing sociopath Trump.

Gerald Ford was not a spectacular President, but did not violate the Constitution as Trump has been doing since day one. Beside opting to pardon the beleaguered Richard Nixon for the many crimes of the Nixon presidency, there were military decisions made by President Ford that followed through on Nixon's efforts to bringing the Vietnam war to a close. Even disgraced Richard Nixon was pretty good on foreign policy, but his overwhelming personal flaws that led to abuses of power and obstruction of justice are what most folks remember. Although I'm a moderate-to-liberal Democrat, I think it is safe to say that Gerald Ford was a decent man with good intentions who served for 895 days in the wake of the Nixon/Watergate/GOP scandal. He was sworn into office on August 9, 1974 and left office on January 20, 1977.

He was in an impossible spot. I think his decision to pardon Nixon was a mistake. I understand it, and it's hard to not counterfacutally what WOULD HAVE happened, but I think bureaucrats and officeholders who abuse their offices SHOULD be held accountable.

However, from what I have heard he was actually a really solid fiscal conservative, and was a solid manager. Mind you, I was born only shortly before he took office, so I don't remember it personally.

Ford was incompetent. He tried to appear presidential so they tried to tackle the Swine Flu epidemic, which turned out to be a non-issue. He was clumsy and kept bumping into obstacles. When he played golf, he usually hit the ball into the audience and hurt somebody. Just like other GOP presidents, he did nothing about the mild recession that happened during the early 1970s. One good thing about that though was that it made houses cheap, and my parents were able to buy one for less than $50,000 in 1976.

Yes, he was a good president. If for no other reason than the fact that he brought dignity back to the office of the presidency after Nixon resigned.

At the time it was said he couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time
