Truck Grinding from the solenoid when turning the key to start?
I have a 1964 Ford F100 pickup truck that ran fine last night but this morning I went out to take it for a drive and when I turn the key the solenoid just makes a horrible grinding noise. I tried jumping it, charging the battery and the screwdriver trick and still just makes a grinding noise. Anyone have an opinion as what it may be?
Sounds like the starter itself has passed-away during the night…
Either the teeth on the starter are broke off or teeth on the flywheel are broke off
You need another starter motor. The gear isn't kicking into the flywheel to engage and turn the motor over.
The solenoid didn't make a horrible grinding noise. The starter did.
Back in the day we used to remove the starter and replace the starter drive for a fraction of the cost of a rebuilt starter - either way probably the starter not throwing the gear into the flywheel with enough forced.
Excellent video of what is going on -
- My 2008 ford ranger Truck is making a Grinding noise when clutch is engaged/press. What are my options? I attach a youtube video of a different car making the same sound. Is my only option to replace the clutch or can it be adjusted? If anybody could link a repair manual to a 2008 ford ranger that would be awesome. I tried google and torrent sites but had no luck
- If I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner and have the key below could I use the standard key and remote? What I mean by standard remote and key is like the ones Ford, Mecury, and Lincoln came out with at first with just a remote and key. Also how would an extra key cost like the one in the picture above? Would it be cheaper to do the the standard key and remote?
- I have a Ford F150. I'm thinking about going to walmart and get a key copy, and it has a chip. Will the key they provide me start the car? It's a 2007 model by the way. It has a chip on the key, and I was wondering if the cloned car key they give me be able to start the car up.
