Put the recommended oil in your car as stated in the owner's manual. That oil worked in your car with good results for the last 10 years. It will surely work again for the next 10.
If you feel that wasting money will help go for it.
Synthetic is always better than conventional oil. This has been proven over and over.
KY-Clay is 100% correct. Mileage is irrelevant. Fully synthetic does everything better than standard oil. It's certainly not a waste of money. You can shop around for store brand synthetic which is to full specification but much cheaper than Mobil.
If it's running well and not burning oil, there's no need to go to a high mileage blend. High-mileage oils tend to be a higher viscosity to reduce the amount that creeps past worn rings etc. But being thicker it takes longer to circulate from a cold start, which in some ways exacerbates the wear in the motor and you get into a downward spiral to motor rebuild city.
Yes. However, I had a bearing slip loose when I put in pure synthetic (as if it was held in place with sludge prior to the sythetic oil).
I would definitely recommend it. Yes, it will cost you a few dollars more, a few times a year. But it will also hopefully extend the life of your engine.
No.
- After driving Ford Ranger, high mileage, 10 miles and at normal operating temp, I park overnight on level concrete floor. I check oil level? Next day before starting and when I pull dipstick out, oil level is at full mark. I wipe the dipstick clean and re-insert and check oil level again, the oil level is down about 1/8th inch or so. I check it once more and get same reading. Is the crankcase full or do I need to add some oil? Just to be clear, since this is an older Ranger with over 170,000 miles, I use high mileage oil and I check the oil level regularly. It doesn't use oil after just 10 miles of driving.
- Is the oil for a 2013 Ford Fusion synthetic only? Just went to Pep Boys and wanted a conventional oil change on my car, which takes 5W-20. Apparently their records state that they "can only legally put in synthetic oil" since it's what the manufacturer recommends. The last time I was here they did it with normal oil, no problem. Did I just get screwed?
- Pennzoil High Mileage vs Castrol GTX High Mileage? My local auto store has 5 quarts of Pennzoil High Mileage for 16.99, but 5 quarts of Castrol GTX High Mileage on sale for 9.99$. Which one is better, or does it not even matter and I should just get the cheaper one? It's going in a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with 155*** miles on it.
- How many miles is Pennzoil High Mileage good for? I've had the 5w/20 in my car for the last 6000 miles. Is it time to replace it? It's a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with 155*** miles on it.
