Why is the new market just SUVs?

I get it if you have a family or moving stuff a lot, but other than that I don't see a point. I just heard Ford is getting rid of everything but their Mustang and the Taurus Hatchback version for their 2019 lineup, and Chevy isn't far behind, and I can't velieve it personally. I've always preferred sedans to SUVs and I don't get why everyone, like millennials or whatever the new young generation is is just getting SUVs and not sedans (I should mention I'm the whatever generation so this isn't just me spatting off at young people)

JUST SUVs? Where, exactly, do you live?

The number of people, couples or families can no longer afford 2 cars, there fore something that can do a bit more then just haul people around is the choice.

Haven't heard about any of the Japanese or European brands ditching sedans, but American brands just don't seem to be selling the traditional "family" 4-door sedan. In the meantime, manufacturers can't build SUVs fast enough to keep up with demand. Besides… Trucks and SUVs are more profitable! It makes sense to concentrate production on the most popular vehicles and let the less popular ones slide.

It's true that small and midsize SUVs are now outselling sedans but no car company but Ford is calling it quits on sedans -- yet. Reasons seem to be that many folks consider SUVs more flexible than cars -- hauling more stuff, fold down rear seats, 3rd row seats, riding a bit higher in the driver's seat, and all-round good visibility.

Diversity of styling also seems to be a factor in why smaller SUVs are popular. Ever notice how similar nearly all modern sedans look when viewed in profile? This similarity is because that one style is the most aerodynamic, having less drag, which maximizes fuel economy.

Manufacturers push high profit SUVs over sedans because they are cheaper make and they sell for more.

If you don't like what the American car makers are doing then switch to foreign brands. Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Hyundai, BMW and many others are not abandoning sedans and in fact build better cars than their American competitors.
