Car won't accelerate, but rpms increase?

I replace my alternator on Saturday and starting that same day my car has had problems accelerating. When I hit 10mph, the rpms shoot to 4000 and I have to ease off the gas pedal. Occasionally this is accompanied by a groaning noise. I made sure that the connections to the alternator were secure, but I'm not sure what the problem could be.

The car is a 1997 Ford Taurus. I would really appreciate any advice.

How to remove/disable the alarm on a 97 ford Taurus?

The alarm goes off every so often for no reason even when the car is completely unlocked, according to the manual the fuse that controls the alarm also controls some other more vital systems so can't just be removed, does anyone have any suggestions on how to quickly and easily disable the alarm, short of disconnecting the battery completely every time we're not in the car?

Ford taurus, ford focus, ford escort or mercury cougar?

Looking for a new used car, anyone know if any of these are bad cars? They're all in the 2000-2005 range
I'm leaning towards the focus cause it gets good mileage and has good storage, also I've heard it does alright in snow. Anyone have any bad experiences with any of these cars or have any bad feedback?

Hoe much can I get for my 2000 Ford Taurus?

I have a Ford Taurus I'm thinking about posting it for $1,500 I will go as low as $1,000 but hoping for $1,200

Here is some info
180,000mi
Mechanic looked it over only found small hole in muffler, so it makes a small noise when on the gas, and also needs front end alignment
Fairly new starter, breaks and break line
Needs all new tires as the thread is really worn.
Gas gauge doesn't work so I record miles manually
Body is a bit rough, before I owned it someone keyed it all down one side. It's not super deep but deffinitly noticeable when you're close the break light also has a quater sized hole in it
The bumper is scrapped up but no dents there's a bad dent about the size of a dinner plate in the hood.
The car runs really well I drive it every day and it never gives me issues. I just got a really good job and it's a bit of a travel so I want to finance a nice new car.
Do you think my asking price is fair? I bought it for $2,750 (made payments not outright) about a year and a half ago.

Should I buy a 1997 Toyota Corolla?

I currently drive a 2000 Ford Taurus. It runs, but lately I've been having a lot of problems with it. Little things here or there break on it, and it costs a lot of money to keep running. I don't like the car. It's too big, gets only 17mpg in the city, and its a very difficult car to drive. It currently has about 130K miles on it.

I test drove a 1997 Corolla. Now, this is a 17 year old car. I get it's old and a little clunky, but I Really like the car. It gets about 24mpg city and 31 highway, it handles and drives really nicely, and I just like the overall look and style of the 90s Japanese compact cars.

I'm looking at one that is $3000. It has 136K miles on the odo, and looks to be in really good shape. I hear these are very reliable cars, and frankly, my Taurus does not have a good reputation from the beginning.

Financially and logically I know it's a bad decision. I could get probably $1500 for my Taurus (it's rusty, has no A/C, and scratched) if I'm lucky. It wouldn't be enough to pay for the Corolla. Plus, I'm buying an older car with more miles. But I just like the car better.

Should I buy the 1997 Toyota Corolla even though it costs more money than I can get for the 2000 Ford Taurus? Should I just stick to the Taurus, or dump it and buy the older Corolla?

Check charging system, only when air conditioner is on?

Car: Ford Taurus '07

Every time I turn on the AC, almost immediately, the battery light comes on and the dash says "Check Charging System." Turn off the AC and the light goes off. Power windows are fine, windshield wipers are fine, car starts up fine, everything's working just as it should.

Cleaned the terminals (there was some corrosion), but it's still happening.

I can drive it for miles and miles and miles without anything happening, even with the headlights on, which makes me think it's not the alternator… At least I hope not, because that's a little expensive ($150-$200 for used part and labor is a lot for us right now).

What do you think? I'm taking it in on Wednesday but would like an idea of what to expect. I don't trust mechanics

Added (1). Wanted to add, it's not that I don't trust mechanics so much as it is every past one has screwed me over. I know that's not all mechanics - I've just had bad luck it seems. So I would like to have an idea of what it's going to be so I can judge if they're yanking my chain.

Added (2). Another additional detail, this has been going on for about a month and a half, and has not seemed to get any worse. Honestly we should have fixed it a long time ago - I know.

Which car should be my first?

2007 Hyundai Sonata
