Opinions on what to do with my car

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SE with 206,000 miles on it. The steering rack and pinion is bad, Both Ball joints need to be replaced, Both CV boots need to be replaced, Both front struts and springs need to be replaced, Brakes and wheel stud need to be replaced, Plus it has an oil leak and transmission leak and for some reason the tempature gauge fluctuates between middle and cold and the heat barely works. Should I just junk it and get a new car or get everything replaced on it? I have no credit and I pay 250 for just liability on this car. Opinions?

Too many issues that will likely keep coming back. Sell the car "as-is" or junk it. Life is short, spend the weekends snowboarding with a new Explorer or HIghlander instead of hanging out in the waiting room of a garage that smells of old oil.

You're just asking for permission. Do it.

If you really like that car and want to spend the time and money on fixing it up go for it. It should be less then another car. But the engine might be original and running out of life. IF the engine goes then it would be time to take it to the junk yard and get a few dollars for it.

Trade it in unless you can do this work yourself. The cost of a shop to do it is uneconomic.

Scrap it - it is worth less than the repair cost.

Considering the age, mileage, and list of things that need to be done ( and the cost of that repair list compared to the resale value of the vehicle ), I would call it quits.

That's quite a laundry list, Skippy. All these things didn't wear out at the same time. It sounds like your car has been poorly maintained and abused for a long time. Now it's up to you. If you do the complete list of repairs, it will cost more than the car is worth, and there's no guarantee that something else won't break next week. If it were MY car, I'd sell it while it still runs/drives, and go look for something newer and in better condition.

Man if you can't figure out how much that POS is worth even after you spend over $2000 doing all that work… Don't drive. It'll be cheaper taking a taxi! Junk that thing!

It's cruel to keep it. Put it out of its agony.

As a Taurus owner, also with a 2001 SE model, I'd get rid of it.

These cars aren't worth that much anymore

  • Would like opinions on Ford Five Hundreds? How are they holding up? How well do they drive and handle? What are they getting for fuel mileage? Both AWD and 2WD's?
  • Opinions about a 2007 Ford Crown Vic? Thinking about buying this 2006 crown vic. I heard the air ride suspension is a headache to fix. This seems like a good tough car, they use them for Taxi's don't they?
  • Need opinions on a Ford Employer 1996? I can pick up the above SUV with 141,000 miles for $700.00. It looks and sounds fine just will need new tires. I've never bought a vehicle with high miles like this and am a little afraid of major repairs down the road. Give me an honest opinion on this SUV
  • I need some opinions on my car? I drive a 2002 Ford Mustang, and it's dark blue with white pin stripes, white lettering on the back, and white stripes below the doors (not in the picture because the picture is old). My question is, should I buy a white hood scoop or a blue hood scoop? Pictures here:
