My car won't start in very cold weather! What's wrong with it and what's the solution?
I've got a Ford Taurus 2003. When it gets very cold about = it cranks but won't start. There's no problem with the battery and the cables are tightened and fixed. However when I open the fuse box and move the fuses up and down and push them down real hard it starts just as normal. Any ideas?

looks like you found the solution. Check connections
Metal shrinks when it gets colder, possibly the metal socket of the fuses and the fuses shrink that much in the cold, that they loose contact.
another possibility is that it has nothing to do with metal that shrinks when cooling but maybe there's some rust and when moving the fuses, the rust grinds off and the contact is then closed to make the car start. Whether rust or shrinking metal in the cold, its a lack of contact, maybe its only a loose wire.
whatever the reason is, it is the fuse box that makes that problem, because when pushing the fuses down real hard, the car starts and the solution to that starting problem will be a new fuse box, because that shouldnt then need to be pushed each time for starting.
I don't have a clue why pressing on the fuses does anything but I'd go to the dealer and have them check it out. The temperature sending unit for the computer may be defective and the motor may not be getting enough gas for cold starts. The dealer may also have mechanic TSB reports for your problem.
- Why did Trump say of Dr. Ford: I thought her testimony was very compelling, looks like a very fine woman and was a very credible witness? I thought her testimony was very compelling, and she looks like a very fine woman to me. A very fine woman. It was incredible. It was an incredible moment, I think, in the history of our country. But certainly she was a very credible witness. She was very good in many respects. https://www.c-span.org/video/?452222-1/president-trump-reacts-calls-delaying-vote-kavanaugh-nomination
- Why did my car start and die when put into gear? Now it won't start at all? It's a cold winter day (below zero) Car started right up! I let it run for about 2 minutes, I put it in gear and it just died. I figured it's cold out, not real surprising, but when I tried to start it again, it won't start! Turns over fine but engie won't start! Any ideas? 2003 Ford Taurus 3.0L
- Check engine light comes on when the weather gets cold So I have a 2004 Ford Taurus SE and I bought it around a year ago. Now, every time the weather gets below around 50 or so the Check Engine light will turn on. But when it warms up to 55+ it'll turn back off. I use the system check in the car with the buttons and it says everything's okay. It'll probably shut off in 2 or 3 days, just wondering what's going on and how to make it stop?
- 2001 ford Taurus won't start when its cold out? Hi, I have a car that I'm having trouble with. For awhile I could get it started in the cold weather just by hooking up a charger and it would start right away. The battery is new and at full. We think its a fuel problem, however the heater in this car doesn't work either. Any suggestions, where do I start with my trouble shooting? when the weather is warm, the car starts every time. I'm sorry, yes it does turn over.
