Car consumes 3/4 Quart of Oil for first 1000 miles and basically stays at a 1/4 for another 4000 miles?
I have been noticing this for sometime, no visible leaks underneath, no drips either and I have been looking and checking pretty routinely, what would cause after a oil change for the car to consume 3/4 of a quart for the first 1000 miles and then basically stay at a 1.4 for another 4000 miles? Vehicle is 2006 Ford Taurus SE OHV 3.0
Added (1). note. When I say a quarter. I'm talking about the 1/4 line (amount) on the dipstick from full to re-fill
That 3/4 might be the oil that goes into the oil filter and stays there after an oil change and engine start. There's no other explanation as to why you use 3/4 qt in 1000 miles and virtually nothing after that. The oil capacity of your car is 4.5 qts - without an oil filter change.
It probably "consumes" that extra oil in the first three seconds when you fill the new filter.
- If a car causes another car to swerve and spin-out, is it considered hit-and-run if they leave the scene? On the way to work this morning, I saw a Ford truck cut off a smaller car and the poor car spun out in the rain and ended up facing the opposite direction. This caused the traffic to stop because it looked like the vehicle wouldn't start. The ford truck most likely knew he did that but kept going, instead of stopping. He didn't hit the car or any cars at all during the time. If he didn't actually hit anything, is it still considered hit and run? Should he have stopped?
- I need insurance for cheap, basically just to be legally driving. Options? I live in California, I will be traveling up north toward Santa Cruz, Humboldt, and eventually Oregon. I just need to state that I do have insurance in case I get pulled over. I'll be driving a van, most likely a stock ford econoline around the 90s.
- Half quart over in oil, is that okay? 2005 Freestar. Thought it took almost 6 qts like my Duratec in my othrr Ford. Maybe half quart over and couple hundred miles from home on vacation. Should I buy a 15mm box wrench for a few bucks and drain it off, or is it not a big deal.
