Are Ford Taurus' good cars?

Specifically a 2007 model? I'm interested in buying one i found on Craigslist. Has somewhat high mileage (160k) and it's in good condition. How much do you think someone should pay for it? What's odd is i did some research on it and it's value but on autotrader it says the 2007 model isn't official, like it doesn't exist. Something about 2006 models "rolling over" to 2007. What does this mean?

They were pretty cheaply made cars that got you from point a to point b. All the ones in the salt belt rusted out pretty badly and at 160k it's pretty much at the end of its reliable life. Keep looking, Toyota's and Honda's are the way to go.

Though I don't like the mileage… Preferring something with say closer to 100K or even less for a 10 year old car. (before you say such a thing does not exist… Mine is 10 yrs old and it has not made 30K yet.) I just don't drive much.

There's a chance that they carried them on another year for sale to rental fleets (GM did that with the Malibu and the Impala). If that is the case on the one you are looking at, RUN! Nobody wants an old rental car, especially one with that many miles.

God created s**t, Ford put it on wheels, you pay your money, take your chances

  • Why would people buy older foreign cars instead of brand new American cars? I see it all the time, people driving 7-8 year old Mercedes or BMWs that they paid probably paid around $20,000. They could of easily gone out and bought a brand new Ford or Dodge, but they didn't. They bought a Mercedes with over 100k miles. All worn and torn on the inside. But aslong as they're shining on the outside I guess.
  • Why don't American cars last as long as Japanese cars? My family has owned a Ford Taurus and a Nissan Altima of similar model years. Both cars are still running, but the Taurus has very low mileage (it's a 1999 with only 85,000 miles) and the interior is in horrible condition and the plastics Ford put in have been known for breaking. None of this has happened with the Altima, even though it has more miles. Why?
  • Why are some Ford cars (like the Taurus and Focus) such unreliable cars? I'm looking at cars in the $3000 - $4500 range and I'm noticing a decent amount of Ford Taurus's and Focus's and out of all the cars that I see, these are two cars that just seem so unreliable. I test drove a Focus last year and it sounded like something was wrong with the engine.
  • Old classic cars vs newer classic cars? I'm looking at a 1974 corvette stingray and I'm thinking about buying it but at the same time i've been looking at f-body and fox body camaros and mustangs I need help narrowing down my decision so I would like to hear your opinions on whether to get the 74 stingray or the f- body and fox body mustangs
