2001 Ford Taurus intermittent starting issues when driven distances?

I have been trying to figure this problem put all summer and have just about given up hope after having taken this to my mechanic and to ford and many other people for suggestions. When I start the car the first time of the day it always starts great but if I go distances like 30 miles and turn the car off for 15-30 minutes and go back and try to start the car sometimes it won't start up. It starts chugging usually 4 or more times and then dies. Sometimes it does manage to start after driving it that distance but it will chug 2 or 3 times and then start. Help please? I'm lost at this point and just need some good advice. I have had a lot of work done to this car and even after all of it the problems still exist.

This sounds like a symptom of a malfunctioning IAC (idle air control valve) motor and dirty throttle body. You are saying it starts but idles poorly sometimes correct? Replace the IAC and clean the throttle body.

Try the crank angle sensor.

  • Issues with wiring to Car starting? MY car will randomly not start, i pop the hood and jiggle the negative wire and it will start to work. I was wondering if anyone could help me with identify the problem. My car is a 1998 Ford ranger xlt
  • Issues with 1998 ford ranger starting? MY car will randomly not start, i pop the hood and jiggle the negative wire and it will start to work. The cable is attaced tightly to the terminal, it's the wiring leading away from the terminal I have to jiggle. I was wondering if anyone could help me with identify the problem. • Car cuts out whilst starting a couple times and also because if being revved fully after starting? So yeah, it does that from starting cold i think. It has been suggested that its my Idle air control valve but i've cleaned that out and it still does it. Also replaced spark plugs. Its a Ford Fiesta 1998. However, it idles fine as soon as I've moved the car. So even when stopped it is fine as long as i have driven it since start up. The issues only happen on start up. Any ideas?
  • 2006 Ford Expedition - sudden loud pop/bang no power. Then intermittent power at 3000rpms not shifting? Heard a loud pop/bang and suddenly no power when driving… Turned the car off and was 'going' but shifting horribly and intermittently. No check engine lights on dash. Turned off overdrive and power was better but only beyond 3000rpms… Any thoughts?
