Switching from manual to automatic? 1977 Ford F100 truck?
Hello I'm going to switch manual to automatic, I just need to know the cost estimate if I had it done professionally. I know it will be expensive but I want this truck only.

You probably pick up a C4 or C6 in working order for around 200-500. You'll probably want to have it rebuilt, so that will be another $500-$700. You'll need to get the proper steering column, you may or may not need to have the gauge cluster replaced, and there will be other auxiliary bits and pieces. Figure around $2000-$3000 for the whole job.
- What is the best transmission in a 1983 to 1994 Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI for towing manual or automatic? I seen a lot of OBS Ford 6.9 and 7.3 IDI towing with manual transmission. Very few tow with automatic transmissions. Which is better for Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI towing manual or automatic?
- I have a 2000 Ford Taurus Sedan that has a screeching metal on metal sound when switching gears to reverse? And the sound is there the entire time you are backing up. Does this sound like a transmission issue? Also hearing a rubbing noise in the steering, and it is a little tight, any idea what that could be? Also heater blows, but not real strong and no heat comes out… Does that sound like a difficult and expensive fix? And could the heater or any of the above issues cause my engine light to light up solid continuously? The car runs pretty good aside from these issues.

Nothing beats the feeling of driving an old American 4x4 truck. But newer trucks are safer and get better mpg. Looking for some input on this decision.
