Starting problems on a 2001 ford expidition?
I go to start the car and all i hear is multiple fast clicks, my question is, What could it be? I took it to autozone and tested the battery, battery came out good. I begin to think hmm maybe the starter but it will take a jump from another car but heres the theory, once its running for awhile it seems fine, I tried shutting it off and starting it back up to get the clicking noise, but it starts up every time. I did this for 15 minutes, each time didn't hesitate to start up.
I begin to think its the alternator but we replaced that last year, not to sure if autozone tested that while testing the battery but wouldnt the battery register almost dead from not charging. It seems to do this a lot in cold weather so i'm not to sure where to go from here.
You have a simple weak or dead battery. Try a jump start or put it on a charger for an hour to see if that helps.
Rapid clicking means there's insufficient voltage for the starter to fire, its either corroded battery terminals or a weak battery. The battery may act OK if warmed up but in cold weather it will act up. It takes a boost, so that's all the tests you need, if the battery terminals are clean, get a new battery.
No matter the testing. It still sounds like a bad batt to me from what you described.
If it won't start, then you jump it and it starts. Then everything is working except the batt. Or possibly the the batt cable connection to the batt. When you jump it, you bypass the cable connection to the batt.
You should've known what you got yourself into when buying a ford
P.S - It has a 5.4L engine
- What causes problems starting a car and the engine to misfire going over 60 mph? This problem started about two months ago. I have a 2006 Ford Taurus. So far no mechanic can figure out the problem. They have replaced all of the spark plugs (numerous times because they keep going bad), an engine coil, the crankshaft position sensor, the battery, did a tune-up, ran a $100 diagnostic test and still the problem occurs. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? I forgot that they also did a coolant flush.
- 2001 ford taurus starter problems? My 2001 ford taurus has had problems starting. It will work sometimes, but every once in a while it just ticks rapidly. Sometimes it will fix itself and start, but sometimes won't start until the next day. I removed the starter, took it to napa and the test said it works fine. Could this be because it was intermittently working before, or would the test know if it was broken either way?
- Shifting problems and intake problems? I drive a 1997 ford ranger with a 2.3l automatic. I have recently experienced a hard shifting in my truck even when I'm not on the gas it has problems shifting. And I cleaned my air filter and filter hose that goes to my throttle body and there was transmission fluid in the hose. What can be causing this and how can I fix it or how much will it cost roughly?
- 2007 Ford focus starting problems? 2007 Ford focus. I have a steep driveway and when i park on it the car just clicks when I try to start it. Have had it in the shop 17 says out of the last month, Always starts right up. Could it have something to do with parking o a steep driveway? I have a jump pack and it will start right up.
