Should General Motors Company sell its Cadillac division?
Obviously, GM has two luxury divisions (Buick *and* Cadillac), while Ford has just one (Lincoln). Ford's flagship division hasn't gone into making rear-wheel drive performance cars nor has it the reputation anymore to bring back a true luxury sedan like a Town Car.
GM's Buick has pretty much the same reputation as Lincoln: targeting the older crowd nowadays, making more "front" wheel drive luxury cars, and being the American Lexus (or Acura, or Infiniti). Added (1). Sorry for my English. Added (2). Thanks for asking, Erik! I was thinking GM should sell the brand to the general public. By the way, Fiat Chrysler just planned to sell 10% of Ferrari. Personally I feel like the American luxury car industry is almost dead. When people want a luxury car, they buy German. But when you say "sell it", who would they sell it to?
Hi what a load of rubbish boy.Ford produce and have produced both front wheel drive and rear wheel drive cars for years. As has general motors. So that is not true what you say add to this Lexus is the luxury company owned solely by toyota of japan.
so yes they have import companies like America Lexus.
the same is true of both Acura and Infinti somewhere tied to HONDA.
Buick isn't a luxury division, it's upscale vs. Chevrolet, but they aren't luxury cars.
For a long time GM's hierarchy went like this
1. Pontiac = aimed more towards young people, they were marketed as a sportier brand.
2. Chevrolet = aimed towards the middle aged crowd
3. Oldsmobile = marketed as a little nicer than Chevys. They were for the person who wanted something a little more upscale than the Chevy, but couldn't afford a Cadillac and didn't want a Buick because they were for old people.
4. Buick = marketed towards older people, often retirees. More luxurious than Chevy or Pontiac, but not as expensive as a Caddy.
5. Cadillac = GM's luxury division.
" I was thinking GM should sell the brand to the general public."
GM is already a publically traded company. So by extension the Cadillac brand is already being sold to the public.
- Cadillac(GM) is building an ATS-V. What about you, Lincoln (F)? Planning on building a rival? I recommend building a 365-hp, 3.5L Ford Taurus SHO V6-powered, all-wheel-drive MKZ SVT to take on Cadillac's new 420-hp, rear-drive ATS-V. The ATS-V would also be a V6, but it's gonna be a 3.6. If the MKZ sells better in terms of monthly sales than the ATS the MKZ SVT should be it! Expect a mid-four-second 0-60-mph time, $55,000+ price tag, and good fuel economy (18+ mpg in the city, 24+ on the highway).
- Doge vs Ford vs Cadillac vs Chrysler? I've recently come into some money and I'm able to buy either a 2005 Mustang, 2005 Cadillac cts, or a 2005 doge challenger, or a 2005 Chrysler 300. They all cost around the same price. But in your opinion what's the better car? I live in Michigan so weather is a concern.
- General Motors, Ford, and American Motors? https://en.wikipedia.org/..._in_Canada Why does it say on Wikipedia they're defunct Canadian car companies? Isn't General Motors and Ford and American Motors United States founded and owned car companies?
- When General Motors was going bankrupt and Obama bailed them out where they for sale to companies like Ford? Were they for sale to companies like Ford or did they refuse to sell out to another company and would rather disappear forever?
