Why is my 1995 Ford Ranger steering column loose?
In recent years, I noticed that my steering column would make a slight popping sound and, it can be moved up when pushed about 1/4 inch. It has not adjustment and, I feel that something has worn out. Does anybody know which part I need to replace?

There are multiple things that could cause a popping sound. They can be really hard to diagnose.
-Front strut or coil pack mounting locations should be torqued to spec.
-Steering linkages
-Rack and ponion mounts
-Steering knuckle
-The bushing in the steering knuckle mounting flange plate
Also check the front skins. The skin is the front covers that cover the bumper. There are two front plates as well. They are part of the frame and behind the bumper. They run across the front of the car and there are two sides.
- Why was the gear shifter hard to move but now very loose? The 2002 Ford Windstar hasn't been driven in a long time. The gear shifter was very hard to move but after driving it a lot, the shifter is easy to move. Is this normal? If not, what is wrong and how do I fix it?
