Why do all my vehicles exterior and interior lights flicker only when the engine is running? Has anyone experienced this difficult problem?
I have a 2004 Ford Ranger XLT FX4 Level II with a manual transmission. Sometimes the flickering lights and engine running rough are worse than other times. They both seem in sync with each other. The truck is now overcharging but I do not think it always overcharged. It is NOT the alternator, plugs that plug into the alternator, battery, grounds, belt, belt tensioner, and idler pulley. Pretty much everything that a mechanic would first check, for example: the obvious things, are all checked and good. I don't know what the problem is. It has to be something causing it.
Bad ground
Connect jumper cables from battery negative to the engine block and engine block to frame. Issue goes away, check for bad ground cable and ground points. No joy, check alternator output with a carbon pile tester.
Either a bad ground to the body from the battery negative post or a bad ground to the alternator housing.
If those are ok you need a new alternator as the one in your vehicle has "ac ripple:",\.
If it were a bad ground as others suggest, the flickering would likely happen even when the engine is not running.
I would have the alternator tested.

That Can't be true. IF overcharging is happening, it MUST be the alternator. Other issues can cause flickering, but ONLY a problem with the alternator can cause overcharging.
- Why do the interior lights stay on when I put a new relay in my ford transit 2006 minibus? I replaced the missing relay for the interior lights, but when I shut all of the doors they stay out.
- Gears in my manual transmission Ford Ranger are difficult to shift when the engine is running. Why is this? This usually happens in the morning or if I have not driven in a while usually when its cold out. Once the car gets warmed it gets easier.
- 99 Ford ranger XLT base model. Park lights, dash lights, and license plates lights out I checked online and realized it was probably a fuse which it is. Fuse 11 in my power distribution box. The problem is I keep replacing at and soon as I turn on my lights it blows instantly. Have replaced it multiple times. So then I looked under my truck and disconnected the wiring to my taillights and replaced the fuse, it worked it didn't blow. Dash lights and license plates lights were on so I figured some where there's a problem with the brake lights. Any suggestions?
- My interior lights were flickering on and off, what could be the problem? My interior lights were flickering on and off but I wasn't driving or anything. I had it in park and I did have the driver s door open it was night time too. I don't know what could be the problem btw it's a ford 500 2005. It was raining all day so maybe the water gpt inside something but it wasn't raining when I had the door open. Oh btw it was also making a service ding ding npise too with every flickering.
