What tire size can I put on my Ford Ranger?

I've got a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd 3.0 v6 and as far as I know it's all stock. Currently it has 225/70r16 fuzion tires on the rear and some 225/60/r16 tires on the front. I want to put new all terrain tires on it and wanted to go bigger so I was thinking like 235/75r16 or something like that so would they fit or what is a bigger tire I can put on without making any other mods to the truck? Also I would be getting all terrains too. Any help is appreciated

1st of all, having mismatched tires ( especially w/narrower ones in the rear ) is not wise; 2nd - take the vehicle to a tire shop and have them help you

The new tyres at 235/75 /16 are 20mm taller to rear and 60mm to front. Have you got enough wheel arch clearance? Your speedo will read slower.

BlackHeart,

First off, you are not currently running OEM sized tires on your Ranger. However was the previous owner did not used the recommended tire size(s) for your vehicle.

The engineers and designers at Ford determine that your 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd would have the best handling, stability and control when using 235/60R16 sized tires if you have 16" diameter rims.

The much taller 235/75R16 sized tire would be entirely too tall for your vehicle. The taller sidewall tire would kill your turning and cornering capability making your handling quite sloppy. The taller tire would do you absolutely zero favors.

Your speedometer will need calibration if not stock diameter.

I found two references that said the largest stock 4wd was a 245/75r16, I don't know if there will be clearance issues because yours is 2wd.

The stock size on a 2wd was 225/70r15, the 235/75r16 would be 1.25 greater radius, and 1/2 wider. 235/70r16 would be better, only 3/4" greater radius.
