What size tires would look good on stock 97 ranger with black pro comp wheels?

I have a stock maroon 1997 Ford Ranger XLT, reg cab, short bed, 2wd. I'm getting 15x7, 5x4.5, Be:3.75 black pro comp wheels and am just going for a stock look, no big tires. What would you recommend? 205/70/15 or 215/70/15 or 75/15 or?

Whatever the OEM tires are is what is required; this is not a racing vehicle

235/70-15 is the correct size you need. This was the OEM size for Rangers of that year equipped with 15x7" wheels. http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator

Shows 97 Rangers with 7Jx15 wheels either had 215/75R15 or 235/75R15 as stock, so either of the options you present will be shorter than stock, and maybe narrower, the 215 will be closer.

P215/75 R 15

1997 Ford Ranger XLT Owners Manual Page 285, the manual says on that "note" is "typical" but then says to "check" the "safety compliance certificate label" on the vehicle for the correct tire & rim size. That label is usualy located on the engine bay.

the 235/75 R 15 tires are explicity stated for the ranger 4x4 in the manual on page 284 but not for a 2wd ranger. An owners manual tells every function in detail, when it doesn't mention the 235 tire for the 2wd ranger, then the 235 tire is not for the 2wd but maybe they simple didn't extra mention the 2wd, they were even to lazy to just make a photocopy of that safety compliance certificate label in the owners manuals, then they would be to lazy to mention the 2wd too for the 235 tire.

Obviously there's a bit of disagreement here. However, the experts at Tirerack suggest 235/60-15 as the most appropriate size.

  • What size tires would a 1967 ford f100 have? I've got the truck and ready to work on it only problem is that its tires have gone bad so I can't drag it to a workshop to even start working on it. The truck is a Ford F-100 3/8 ton
  • What size tires and wheels go on my truck? I have a 1975 Ford Courier and I can't read the tire size on the truck. I'm trying to buy new tires and wheels for it and need the size for them.
  • Can I fit 31 inch tires on a stock 1998 ford ranger XLT 2wd? I have a stock 1998 ford ranger XLT 2wd at stock hight and currently have have the tire size 225/70R14. I wanted to put 31x10.50R15LT on it. (31 inch tires). Would I have to lift my truck to put that on there or can I ride 31s stock.
  • Matte Black vs Gloss Black Vinyl stripes? So I have a Ingot Silver 2014 Ford Mustang and was wondering what stripes would look the best on it. I heard that gloss shows every little imperfection (scratches) while with matte black, you can't wax them. I'm leaning more on matte black just because I know that seeing the little scratches on the gloss black over time will really irritate me.
