Nnaybe you should take your car to a nnechanic and have thenn look at it

Clamp a big vicegrips pliers on the flywheel to brace it against the bellhousing, then torque the bolt to proper tension.

Usually, there are three holes in it. Put a 3/8" extension in one hole so it stops against pan or something, Step on the the extension to hold it.

If Not, borrow a strap wrench. I think O'Reillys and The 'Zone lends them out for free. If it doesn't hold, a chain wrench.

What Always works is removing pan and bracing a crankshaft throw with a 2" x 4''.

If it is a manual transmission, put it in top gear and set the parking brake. If it is an automatic your choices are fewer. Look for "puller" holes as duck you sucker describes. Failing that, get a helper to wedge a large screwdriver into the starter ring. I never had any success trying to hold the balancer with a strap wrench; it is just too slick and if it is a genuine harmonic balancer with a rubber ring trying to do it that way will often tear the ring loose. If it is all steel, go for it.

EDIT - I see 2 years ago you were asking about the clutch in a '99 Ford Ranger, so I presume it is still the same vehicle. That makes it so much easier - put it in gear and set the brake.

Impact wrench and an air compressor that puts out 120 PSI.

  • Timing belt replacement on 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L XLT? I'm replacing a timing belt on my ford ranger in the morning, I was curious if I have to remove the crankshaft pulley in order to time it or if I just have to line up the markings and then put the belt back on. And no suggestions to take it to a mechanic most people learn by doing themselves its an old truck so that's what I'm doing.
  • Do i need a pulley puller to remove my water pump pulley? I have a 1996 ford ranger v6 4.0 liter and i was wondering if i need a pulley puller to remove it and/or what other tools will i be needing. It doesn't seem too hard and it's right there so i think i'm capable. I replaced the serpentine belt but now i need to replace both. Also if anyone would be able to give me a link to a video or kind of give me the gist of replacing the pulley.
  • Tstat Ford 94 Mustang: broken bolt, drilled new hole for a bolt? Replacing thermostat in my car when the bolt broke leading us to need to drill a new place for another bolt right next to the old one. Will drilling this and placing a new bolt, hold the thermostat in place and work to keep my car from over heating? I have no idea if doing this will work…
  • I don't know if i need my starter replaced.Should I? I have a 2003 Ford Focus and it wasn't working properly because my key wouldn't turn the ignition I've never had that problem before so i got somebody to fix it and it works but i always have to hit the key to get the key to turn so it can start, all he did was repair it, but should i get it replaced so i don't have to have this problem again?
