Key won't go into ignition?

Hi! I'm having a problem with my 1996 ford ranger. The key won't go into the ignition at all. I've seen people saying that you can turn the steering wheel but I've tried that and also it's parked on a flat surface. This is my only car and I don't have a lot of money so Is this something serious? What can I do about this? I had to take an uber taxi to work which costs a lot of money. Since I can't get the key in I can't drive it anywhere so I'll have to have it towed.

Burn your car and it would solve your old car problem

My only suggestion is to wiggle the steering wheel as you try to insert key… Also is there a small button right next to the ignition you can press in? Some vehicles have that to lock the key in

Possibles. 1. Person with other key broke it off in there. 2. You are using the wrong key. 3. A thief broke their ignition turning tool in there. 4. The lock cylinder gave up the ghost and needs replaced.
I would spray some lock cylinder lube in there if I did not see anything stuck in there. The " key" here is to not force anything. Wiggle and pray.

Get a strong light and LOOK into the keyhole. There's probably something blocking the key from entering. If so that has to come out… If you can't do this, call a locksmith and ask over phone if they can do this [likely cheaper than having car towed].

all older Ford products have same key cross section -- small horizontal bar with descending left and ascending right arms [as you look at the key hole]. If the key you're using its NOT shaped to fit this -- it isn't the right kind of key at all and will never fit.

greater detail would help -- does the key go in part way, but not all the way? Or is it that it won't fit at all?

ps: if some wanna be car thief tried to break the lock by inserting a tool into the keyhole and [whatever they then do] … Then you'll likely have to have it towed since the entire ignition mechanism will have to be replaced.

I have the same problem on a 2006 Escape. Key wouldn't go in at all. After lightly using a screwdriver and trying to move the steering wheel (it's locked), I can forcefully get the key in. It worked for a while, but then had the same issue.
