Put it back in gear. If it keeps popping out, it could be a bad shift fork. Truck will need a new transmission. See a mechanic.
Probably broken shift fork. Transmission needs to come apart. Find local shop at ATRA.COM for more help
Will it move if you put it back in gear?
If the thing won't move and just acts like neutral in every gear the clutch disc blew out of it.
Make sure the drive shaft isn't broken.

- Have 98 Ford Ranger, 4.0, 171,000 miles, auto trans with limited slip. I've owned truck since new and have changed trans fluid every 30-35 000 miles and have never towed anything. The majority of the 171,000 miles are interstate driving. The truck shifts fine with no jerking or slippage. What I do get is thump(s) in rear end when I come to a stop, as gears are downshifting. Do I need a new transmission? Any suggestions? I suppose it's a "clunk" I hear and feel when I come to a stop, not a thump.
- Ford Focus 1.8 TDDI was popping out of 5th gear now won't go into any gear! Is it Clutch or Gearbox? The car which is a 2002 was jumping out of 5th gear into neutral when travelling at 60mph. Now it won't go into any gear and I can only start the car with the clutch pedal pressed in and when I release the clutch pedal with the gear stick in neutral the car stalls. The gear stick will literally not go into any gear. I think I need to find a used gearbox and I think the clutch is fine. What do you think?
