How to install a deadman switch?

I have a 1996 ford ranger that keeps slowly bleeding off the battery. I know the proper procedure would be to find the drain and fix it, but I'm not good at wiring and have little money right now. How would I just install a deadman switch to kill the power when I turn the truck off?

If you are not good at wiring how do you expect to add a deadman switch?

Asker- Maybe its not called a deadman switch… I just need a switch I can manually turn off when I kill the truck.

Go pull the positive battery cable off the battery when you are going to park the truck for awhile.

Logically thinking: What's stopping you from raising the hood and disconnecting the negative battery post and no spending for a "Dead man switch" (Whatever it was in your meaning)

A little light side on the humor: When you find out how to install a "Dead man switch" on my wife's nagging mouth: Send me an e mail. Please.

You know it may be the alternator with a bad diode causing the drain. This problem will escalate and take out other components. It is already killing the battery.
Otherwise. Buy a kill switch at a car parts house and follow the directions. This has an anti theft element as well.

You could try a battery disconnect switch. Most car parts stores have them, some use a lever and some use a screw to contact or disconnect the battery cable from the battery without having to remove the cable every time. These switches may also be called anti-theft devices.

The switch either mounts between the battery cable and the battery post, or mounts direct to the post and the cable then mounts to it. Https://www.google.com/search?q=battery+disconnect+switch&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8. If you go this route, do it on the NEGATIVE terminal.

Just a thought, have you had the battery tested? Or as ponderer suggests, get the alternator tested? Have you checked the terminal connections {i.e., can they use a cleaning?}

Find the problem, then repair the problem.

Stop playing games.

Every time you disconnect your battery, the engine computer loses all its stored drivability data.

p.s. Maybe it's called a "killswitch", or a master switch?

You PROBABLY just need a NEW battery… Yours probably just won't hold a charge

Replace your alternator. Yikes even an old lady knows that
