Ford ranger owners: how fast does a 4.0 v6 ranger go from 0-60?

It's a 2007 ford ranger with a 4.0v6 Manual.

Some people say they do 0-60 in 9 sec.
Are they really THAT slow?

From what I have read, it is actually around 10 seconds unless you mod it a bit. I have read a very slight increase using K&N filters, but you have to be careful with those and not over oil them when cleaning or it can cause some damage. But considering the size and weight, that is not bad. Many vehicles in that category are much slower. It is not a sports car.

It is not geared for speed but torque, towing, and off-road applications. It weighs around 3,445 pounds. And it is made of cast iron, uses SOHC and has fixed valve timing which makes it less efficient than more speedier engines. A more efficient aluminum engine using DOHC with variable valve timing would have quite a bit more HP and faster acceleration due to the lighter weight.

Although I know the newer Toyota 4Runners can beat that big time. That is because I had one as a rental and it could do it in 6-7 seconds. I was passing Mustangs going uphill in that. Fun ride.
