Does my MPG seem low or normal in my Ford Ranger?

I own a 2005 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 V6 4x4

Okay, yes I know it is a truck so I do not expect fantastic fuel mileage, but I was calculating my MPG with this app I have on my phone, and the average is anywhere between 13.2 and 13.6.

The truck is a manual, so to help with the MPG, I usually shift around 2500-3000, and when I'm just driving I usually have it between 1500 and 2000.

Does anything seem wrong here or is it normal?

Sounds normal

No

This is the heaviest '05 Ranger (XLT trim, V6, 4WD); the laws of physics dictate that it will get the worst fuel economy.

Hi very normal given it has a 4 litre engine so you drive economically anyway.

These do get low mileage due to weight of vehicle and large engine. However we cha check against others for average consumption. A used car guis can often state the correct data. Manauls can get slightly more mpg than auto but much depends on driver skills.
anticipated braking areas and coming off gas a bit earlier. No heavy acceleration form stop /lights etc can reduce usage as will changing gears at correct time. Check out our torque band .peak torque revs is where we can change when pulling loads etc but normally we can shirt earlier when empty and not on an incline etc.
carrying excess weight in vehicle will also reduce mileage economy.

  • With a few days to reflect, does Ford's story seem like someone relaying a dream? I'm being totally serious. "We were at some party, and you were there, and Kavanaugh was there and…" That is how you would not know who you went with, or when it happened, or where it was, or how you got home. You only remember a couple details and one "scene". In all seriousness, her story sounds like someone telling about a dream… It explains how nobody else who what "there" remembers it happening.
  • Is this normal or is my ford ranger fuel gauge stuck/broken? I recently purchased a 2007 ford ranger, and i do not know much of how its fuel gauge works yet. I filled it up for the first time a couple days ago and drove it about 35 miles since, and the fuel gauge still shows full. The gauge shows empty when i turn off the truck and then upon starting it up returns tot he full position like normal. Is this normal for ford rangers, or otherwise what could be wrong? Also what would be the range on a full tank for this type of truck?
  • How many MPG does a 79 Ford F150 Ranger Lariat get? I'm getting a 79 Ford Ranger with a 460 in it, it is rwd. I'm curious to know what MPG they get.
  • After driving Ford Ranger, high mileage, 10 miles and at normal operating temp, I park overnight on level concrete floor. I check oil level? Next day before starting and when I pull dipstick out, oil level is at full mark. I wipe the dipstick clean and re-insert and check oil level again, the oil level is down about 1/8th inch or so. I check it once more and get same reading. Is the crankcase full or do I need to add some oil? Just to be clear, since this is an older Ranger with over 170,000 miles, I use high mileage oil and I check the oil level regularly. It doesn't use oil after just 10 miles of driving.
