Best tire size for ranger?

For a 3 inch body lift on a 06 ford ranger, what's the best tire size, 32" 33"? Opinions, websites with good deals, any information will be greatly appreciated

An '06 Ford Ranger V6 doesn't have enough power without changing the gear ratio's (4:11-4:56-4:88, do the math) to pull a 32" or 33" tire. A four cylinder is out of the question.

Not sure where Mike got his information from but on 06 ranger either had the 3.0 or 4.0 V6 not a four banger? But either way you should be able to run 31' or 32's pretty easy. I've ran 33's on the older style rangers so you'd probably be ok running 33's but may scrub when turning? But I was say that the larger the tire the less horse power you'll have and the more gas it'll take. I've included a website that has some useful information about tire sizes. Hope this helps

Mike is correct. You're going to want 4.10's at the minimum for 33 inch tires, with 4.56's being preferred. Figure on spending $600 per axle (if the truck is a 2WD you'll only need to have one axle done) to have this done, it's not something you can yourself.

Just Wanna Know should know that the 2006 Ranger could be had with a 2.3L Duratec I4, as well as the 3.0L Vulcan or the 4.0L SOHC. It's also common knowledge that to retain the effective gearing as stock tires, you should regear axle(s) to keep the effective axle ratio the same or as close to the same as you can get it. You don't lose horsepower when you put on bigger tires. The engine still produces the same amount of power, what you lose is mechanical advantage as the larger diameter tires effectively decrease the effective axle ratio. The less mechanical advantage you have the more energy is required to move the vehicle, which means you're using more throttle, which in turn means that you're using more fuel. Regearing gets you back that mechanical advantage.

Also body lifts suck. They don't improve suspension travel or articulation. They tend to look awkward since the bumpers remain at the stock height as well.

  • What tire size can I put on my Ford Ranger? I've got a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd 3.0 v6 and as far as I know it's all stock. I want to put new all terrain tires on it and wanted to go bigger so I was thinking like 235/75r16 or something like that so would they fit or what is a bigger tire I can put on without making any other mods to the truck? Also I would be getting all terrains too. Any help is appreciated
