88 Ford ranger 2.9 won't start?

My name's thomas and i got a 88 Ford ranger that turns over but won't start i was driving home one day when my truck just died on me and now won't start any suggestions that could help me out

Yes.First thing to do is see if you're lacking fuel or spark.Remove the air intake hose from the throttle body, spray carb cleaner or starting fluid into tb opening, reattach hose, try to start vehicle. If it starts and runs for a few seconds then dies, its a No Fuel problem. If it doesn't start at all, its a No Spark problem. If its No Fuel, locate the fuel pump inertia switch and see if it has been tripped. It has a reset button on it to push.It should be located right behind the driver seat or to the right of the transmission tunnel on the passenger side floorboard area. You may have to pull carpet back a little to access it. You also have a fuse, fuel pump relay, and eec power relay that can go bad. The eec relay should be near the computer or behind the passenger side kick panel.A defective eec relay will make the fuel pump relay not work so check it first. The ignition switch, pip sensor inside the distributer, and the ignition module are components notorious for causing your problem. Check link

Ok, i sprayed some starting fluid into throttle body and still no start so it must be a no spark problem

  • Why did my car start and die when put into gear? Now it won't start at all? It's a cold winter day (below zero) Car started right up! I let it run for about 2 minutes, I put it in gear and it just died. I figured it's cold out, not real surprising, but when I tried to start it again, it won't start! Turns over fine but engie won't start! Any ideas? 2003 Ford Taurus 3.0L
  • I have a 99 ford ranger that won't start. What could be wrong with it? None of the lights work, lock buttons won't work, absolutely nothing works. I tried jumping it and that didn't work. The truck doesn't make the clicking noise when i try to start it. I know nothing about cars. I just want a general idea of what could be wrong. I don't like going to mechanics without a vague idea of what could be wrong. I've had mechanics do a lot of stuff that didn't need to be done and it costed way to much
  • 99 ford ranger clicks once, but won't start what could be wrong? The truck was running fine, but the day before yesterday it wouldn't start. All the lights and stereo come on so its not the battery. When you turn the key it clicks once but doesn't start. All the plugs are new and the belts, and the transmission is new too.
