Maximum distance I can move batteries from alternator?

I have a 250amp alternator in my ford pickup and just bought 2 new 1320CCA batteries to replace the smaller 600CA batteries, but they are too tall and the hood will hit them. I want to put them in the box of my truck. I have a '91 diesel so I need 2 batteries, and I'm just wondering if moving the batteries so far from the alternator will minimize the charging or damage the alternator. Please don't answer this with "I think" or "maybe"
I'm looking for facts not opinions please.

Installing distributor blindly?

I have a 1975 ford and I wanted to replace the distributor, I took the old one out and bought a new one. I just dropped it in randomly and tried to start the engine. After another 5 tries I got it to start and I set the timing. He car runs great. Is this ok or so I need to have a mechanic reinstall the distributor.

I have asked the question:
What is the major advantage of V-12 engine?

All I know is that V-12 engine is powerful and smooth.
Why didn't American like it?
Someone says it is expensive, but I don't think so.
