Help me sort my USA Roadtrip?

I have my own self converted camper van (a ford transit swb) which has been quoted at £800 to ship to USA. However I'm confused as to what else I need to pay to drive for 12 months.

I need Insurance. Road tax? There's no clear answer I can find online.

Is insurance more expensive in the US for a UK license? Currently I'm paying £1800 for UK annual insurance.

Studies after studies show that American cars have surpassed Japanese ones in reliability and quality, so why don't Americans buy them?

Back in the 1970s and 1980s the Japanese cars did in fact surpass the American cars in reliability and quality and thus it led to Americans buying more Japanese Toyotas and Hondas. However in recent years the American cars such as Chevrolet and Ford have matched and even surpassed Japanese cars. But the Americans people still buy Hondas and Toyotas in big numbers every single year… Despite the fact that they charge thousands more than Ford and Chevy.

Why don't the people realize that they are wasting their money?

Things to know before buying a new or used vehicle?

It's my first major choice. Please help and yes I'm going anonymous because I don't want to be judged. Do I pay exactly what the sticker says? Am I supposed to ask questions? What should I know and what is the best choice if you please? Ford's seem like durable vehicles that are easy to work on or I don't know just help please?!
