My ford 500 limited series won't pick up speed when i try to accelerate. I was told it was my air intake system?
A mechanic told me to replace the throttle body. I'm not too educated on cars but i know i would have to buy the throttle body, hose, and maybe gasket. Few questions, is the gasket important to replace as well? Besides those listed part is there something else i need to get?
Hi as your not educated on cars then take it to a ford dealer.
"a mechanic told me to replace the throttle body." Yes, we also have a bridge to sell to you. Get the MAF sensor cleaned first and try again. No joy, get a scan tool and check for trouble codes.
First you should use a carb cleaner to clean the inside of the throttle body and throttle sensor.
Plus change air and fuel filter.
Last option if the problem persists, change fuel pump.
Your mechanic wants you to spend money on repair costs and labor plus he gets to keep the original throttle body.
Get another mechanic to check it out. Sounds to me as if the guy you saw was not too smart.
If you don't know what you're doing… STOP DOING IT before you screw up something Really expensive. Take your car to a REAL mechanic and pay to have it done right the first time.
Have the OBD2 trouble codes pulled at a part store for free. Write them down. Look up the codes and possible remedies. I would not summarily replace a throttle body unless I was very sure it was damaged beyond repair. Usually they just need cleaning after a few years. Another suspect in this mishap is the intake manifold- Ford uses plastic ones and the crack and leak vacuum, but there are tests for that. You need to see a different mechanic other than the one who wants to just start throwing in parts without testing anything. OBD2 codes and remedies
Hold your head out the window and when you mash on the gas what sound does it make. This is very important
- I have a 2008 Ford Taurus Limited. The air cond. Compressor is taking forever to engage? The problem gets worse the higher the outside temp. And when the car is idling. Freon level is normal, and the compressor is not short cycling. Any ideas? Forgot to add that the condenser fan is running non-stop at idle when compressor is not cycling.
- Can i unplug my mass air flow sensor to get my cold air intake to work better on my 2015 ford taurus? When i put the cold air intake on my car it went really slow so if I unplug the sensor would it fix that problem
- I hear air blowing out of my air intake, when I trie to start my 96 Ford F-150? Me and a friend recently replaced the head on my 96 Ford F-150, straight 6. The old head cracked cause it ran hot. When we trie to start it, it sounds good like its about to start but stops when air blows out of the air intake. The distributer was not removed and the plug wires and spark plugs are right, baterey is good. What did we do wrong? Why will it not start?
