My first car was a 2003 Ford Excursion XLT?

When I turned 16 and first got my license.
The other teenagers at the time were afraid of larger veicles, saying that they're too powerful, they're too high up, they're hard to control…

So being the gutsy guy that I was…
And by that time, tough as a bed of nails, with teeth.

I figured I would do something different.

Of course I never accounted for such a vehicle also being an inefficient, expensive gas guzzler…

I got myself a Ford Excursion XLT.

To me, that was really fun to drive.
Up high, 10 Cylinders, 310 HP…
10,000 pounds of maximum recommended towing.
Back then, that was very powerful.

I liked the truck like handling.

It felt like when I climbed up in it…
I strapped on a mean piece of equipment.
Lol

I really felt bad that I had to sell it because of the fuel consumption…

Back when gas hit $4 per gallon under Bush.

That vehicle did help launch me as a truck driver.
:P

Thanks for sharing with us.

My first car was a 1984 Toyota Corolla 😂

My dad has a ford escape and it is one of the worst handling cars i driven. I love my little Honda civic coupe tho much better built and handles much better.

LOL, the Excursion, even with the V10 was pretty slow even the standards of the day. A four cylinder accord of the same vintage would be quicker. It might've had 310 HP but it also weighed 7500 pounds. The power to weight ratio was about 82 HP per ton. The typical four cylinder family car had a power to weight ratio of about 100 HP per ton back in 2003.

  • Ford expedition xlt 2003? I have a 2003 mustang v6 and i'm tired of small cars i was wondering if the expedition was a good reliable suv i know the gas mileage is int all that great but is it decent?
  • 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer for First Car? So I'm 18 and looking at this expedition for my first car? Should I get it or something smaller. I've always wanted a truck with a third row and an engine that sat up off the ground (flood prone area). And little cars and sedans make me nervous accident wise And the the price is very affordable for a very comfy truck. But I'm on the the short and skinny side and don't want to be made fun of. Also the gas and maintenance ( brakes) costs are a concern. What do you guys think?
