My car smells like WD40?
When I drive my car for a while like an hr or so it starts to get a smell like WD40. Sometimes it is super strong to were my nose burns and other times it weak. The smell just fills the car. It also does it sometimes when i accelerate really fast. I drove my uncle around who knows a lot about cars, and he said he never smelt that before. What could the smell be coming from? All my fluids are full. I just got a tune up on my car about 3 weeks ago. I got a new radiator, spark plugs, fuel filter, oil change and a lot of work into it. Also when i accelerate really fast then slow down, sometimes it'll mess up my shifting. My car will start shifting really hard. But it only does it if i accelerate super fast like when i'm in the middle turn lane and traffic is bad. But then after a day it goes back to shifting just fine. My uncle said maybe a shifting sensor is going out and my dad thinks maybe something can be burning up to cause the smell. I started using the heat in my car too and i don't know if there can be an issue with that. I didn't have this issue last winter when using the heat so i don't know. Also my check engine light keeps coming on then going off then on. I got that checked at auto zone and it says it's my oxygen sensors not storing oxygen due to a valve/vacuum leak, engine misfire, or something else. My car has been running fine all summer until now. Even after the tune up a month ago it ran just fine. What do you guys think could be going on with my car? Its a 96 ford contour.
Hot antifreeze has a strong, sweet smell like wd40. Maybe there's antifreeze on your engine and the smell comes in through the air vent. You could have a leak in the new radiator, or the hoses. Have it looked at by the radiator installer. Tell them the smell started when they fixed the car. Somebody needs to check the coolant (antifreeze) level. If it's leakibg out, tge car will suddenky overheat, then if you keep driving, you will permanently injure the engine in a short time.
If there's antifreeze on your engine, you need to rinse it off with a hose, but you can't let it sit in a puddle on the ground, because animals will want to drink it, and it will kill them. If antifreeze gets on the exhaust system where it's really hot, it will make a really strong abd nasty smell, like you are describing. Go to the radiator place today.
- Wouldn't women like Dr. Ford feel safer when they were drunk if OSHA stopped violent men like those in the NFL from hitting each other? And calling it play. Shouldn't women have that right to feel safe? You can call this "highlight films" but they are just rich men being violent which a civilized government would stop
- Why don't car companies remake some of their classic car models if people like them so much? Of course safety is in mind because everyone would freak out if they didn't have a seat belt and air bags in every inch of the car, but why can't some of the companies just remake their best selling car models? Dodge could remake their 1948 Sedan and Ford could remake their 1949 Custom. I could list more but I can't think of any more classics.
- Why do some companies like Ford have a 5year warranty and others like Hyundai have a 10year warranty? Does the company with the longer warranty trust in their product longer? Or they know that the owner will have to do a ton of repairs and without a back up no one would ever buy them?
- Ford Taurus smells hot after driving? I have a '99 Ford Taurus SE, 24 valve V6 It smells hot when we get home from any trips. I constantly have to check the oil in it. The car dealer we got it from had a newer engine put in it after it ran out of oil and seized up. I swear I did regular maintenance to it. 5 quarts of oil burns pretty fast inside a month. Something was wrong with the first engine. Are these engines notorious for problems? It's the only thing we have ever had issues with on the car.
