My car got scratched this morning, what actions do I take? If I report this to my insurance company, will it up my rates?

I live in Washington state and this morning (maybe about an hour ago) I noticed a scratch on my rear left side door as I was getting into the front seat. I'm positive it happened either in the morning or last night late. I just moved to this establishment with my family and I'm going to see if I can obtain a copy of the video to get the license plate number of the person who parked next to me. If I report this to my insurance company after getting the license plate, will it jack up my monthly rate? I'm paying this car off, and it is a 2016 Ford. It still has a warranty with Ford, could I take it to a Ford dealership and it will be repaired for free or is that only for mechanical issues with the car. I'm new to this and I really need some input. My car got scratched this morning, what actions do I take If I report this to my insurance company, will it up my rates - 1

Only mechanical issues are covered by warranty. The scratch repair will probably cost less than your deductible, so you wouldn't turn it in to your insurance. Take it to a body shop and see if it can just be buffed out.

"Could I take it to a Ford dealership and it will be repaired for free or is that only for mechanical issues with the car."

Of course not. Ford will only repair mechanical issues due to mechanical failure.

Assuming your have collision coverage on your Ford you could indeed file a not at fault collision claim. However, you would only want to do so if the damage repair cost is higher than your set collision deductible. If it is less you would obviously want to pay for the repair cost out of pocket.

Rarely do not at fault insurance claim cause an insurance rate increase should you decide to file.

No, Skippy. Your Ford manufacturer's warranty DOES NOT pay to repair scratches or other damage to the car. THAT is what insurance is for. You need to check your insurance policy to see how much you would have to pay on the deductible before your insurance kicks in to cover the rest. Most likely, a simple scratch on a car door will cost less than your deductible to repair, so in that case, it's best to just pay for the repairs out of your own pocket and leave the insurance company out of it.

No, your warranty does not cover cosmetic damage. That would be your auto insurance and unless the cost to repair is more than your deductible, it won't do you any good to make a claim with your insurance company.

A warranty is only for mechanical and electrical issues. It does not cover accidents or scratches.
