My 92 ford probe overheated then shut down?
When I pulled into the parking lot of the doctors office today I noticed steam coming from the hood. When I got out I saw antifreeze all over the ground. My cousin came and filled the car up with water and drove it back to the house. It was still running hot and about a mile before we got to the house it shut down. It had to be pulled the other mile. It would not start at all? Well about 3 hours later it starts fine. I'm just wondering why it shut down but starts fine now? Is it worth fixing?
Holy cow.
to answer your question, when your car gets hot enough, there's a temperature gauge of some sort that will prevent the vehicle from starting or running. This prevents the vehicle from overheating at an extreme temperature. So when you drove it hot with only water, assuming that the water leaked out, there was nothing to cool down the engine and it got really really hot and the engine prevented u from starting it again. Then when you left it alone for 3 hours it cooled down enough to start. There are a lot of things in the cars computers that will not allow you to do some things and this is one of them.
some advice, when your car over heats and leaks out all its coolant, DO NOT EVER put any water or coolant into the car. You can crack the whole engine block or a major part that will turn your car into junk. U wait until the engine is at least cool enough to touch (about 1-3 hours) before you put any coolant or water in
you just need to find where the leak is. If its a hose, you can take it to a shop or do it urself. Cost about 80bucks. If its the radiator, then its going to be 300-400 bucks, or do it urself for 250ish. If you can get another car then do it. If not and its your only form of transportation, then i would fix it
As long as its a minor problem, like the thermostat, yeah, fix it and drive it some more. If its something major, time to move on.
- My car overheated, power steering is out, and battery light is on? So for the last few days I have smelled a burnt smell when I turn on my heater, then today I was driving home and all of a sudden the power steering went out and the temp. Gauge was in the red. I went back out a few hours later when it had cooled down and turned it on, the power steering is still out and the battery light is on. There doesn't seem to be any leaks. What could be wrong? Oh, and I drive a 2003 Ford Focus ZX3.
- In drive I push down on the gas pedal but the car won't move. It will then jump and drive normally? Question: as I put my car in drive and push on the gas, my car will make the sound as it should if it were actually moving, but doesn't at all even if I floor it. Then finally it will just jump and start driving normally. I have a 2003 Ford Explorer and yes my engine light is on. Even if I stop at a red light this will happen. Any info is appreciated.
- 1989 Ford Probe GT Crankshaft Position Sensor #2? I recently got my car scanned because the check engine light is on and it came back as the Crankshaft Position Sensor #2. I didn't know that '89 Probes had that sensor, and after looking around, I could not find any information on it. I'm wondering 1. If the sensor is replaceable and 2. Where is the sensor even located and 3. How to get the engine check light off.
