Is High Mileage on a Used Car a Bad Thing?

I'm looking into buying a used 1989 Ford Mustang for $3,195. The mileage on it is 89000. I'm not sure if the mileage is a bad thing or if it should affect my purchase.

That mileage is pretty good.anything over 100,000 is worth questioning. 3000 is too much tho.look up on kbb the book value

That is very low mileage for a vehicle that is 26 years old ; it works out to approx 3423 miles per year… Either he owner rarely drove the vehicle, or the odometer has been tampered with… You can buy a carfax to help verify the mileage + get written maintenance records from the owner + have a mechanic inspect the vehicle before purchase

It's 26 years old so would not be surprise if it's more like 289,000. Anyway depends how the car has been maintenance and what has been replaced and what has not. Basically how good does it drives right now.

It depends if you want the car for a long time maybe find one with less mileage but that amount of mileage is really good! It should probably be able to last to about 200000 miles so your good

89,000 is actually really low for an 89.

Hi considering it's age that is a good price for a car that has not gone over the 100k mile marker. So you might get some good service till it gets near to the 100k miles. Then things might change and become a money pit.

It's a 26 year old car.

  • My truck gets 23mpg, is this good or bad gas mileage? My daily driver is a 2003 Ford Ranger single cab, great truck and al for mel. It's a 4 banger, and I recently decided to calculate and find out how many miles per gallon it gets and it came out tp 23 miles per gallon, and I rarely drive on the interstate either. If that matters. Is my truck good on gas or is it a guzzler in your opinion?
  • After driving Ford Ranger, high mileage, 10 miles and at normal operating temp, I park overnight on level concrete floor. I check oil level? Next day before starting and when I pull dipstick out, oil level is at full mark. I wipe the dipstick clean and re-insert and check oil level again, the oil level is down about 1/8th inch or so. I check it once more and get same reading. Is the crankcase full or do I need to add some oil? Just to be clear, since this is an older Ranger with over 170,000 miles, I use high mileage oil and I check the oil level regularly. It doesn't use oil after just 10 miles of driving.
  • 2000 V6 ford mustang bad gas mileage? So my Ford Mustang its eating away gas kinda fast for my understanding, i do around 6.5 miles to work and the same back to the house but for some reason its going kind of fast. To put it into perspective i filled up my tank last night and it has gone through a quarter of the tank in less than a day, my calculations is that it'll be by half of tank tomorrow. So for those car experts out there can you give me a suggestion about what could the problem be?
  • Pennzoil High Mileage vs Castrol GTX High Mileage? My local auto store has 5 quarts of Pennzoil High Mileage for 16.99, but 5 quarts of Castrol GTX High Mileage on sale for 9.99$. Which one is better, or does it not even matter and I should just get the cheaper one? It's going in a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with 155*** miles on it.
