Is a V6 Mustang a good first car?
My dad texted me and said that I might be getting a car. It's a 1998 Ford Mustang V6. Here's what it has.
-V6 engine (18 city/ 27 highway)
-5-speed manual transmission
-Exterior color: Burgundy
-Interior color: Gray
-Cloth seats
-Cruise control
-Power windows, locks, & mirrors
-Mustang GT wheels
-Dual exhaust
-180,000 miles
Would it be a good first car?
Added (1). I really want it. My mom, dad, and me all love the Mustang.
Added (2). I know the current owner's family who is friends with my dad. No rust. EXTREMELY clean. It's in a driveway.
Added (3). My dad used to be a mechanic. My uncle also was.
Yes… Its a osam car
I think it is a good car, go for it.
If your dad is a mechanic and he is ok with it then why not. Personally though buying a car from a friend is almost always bad news and the car does have 180k on it so expect problems if not now but with in a year this is the time when cars parts begin to fail a lot so mainly little things like alternator or a cracked radiator it could be a great little car or it could explode in a week. Cars are tools and when they fail they fail new or old.
Get it completely checked out by an independent mechanic. You will either find out that it's perfect and a great deal, or needs work (negotiate the price down accordingly) or that it's falling apart (then just keep looking). With 180K, the engine is either freshly rebuilt or possibly worn out. It could be great, or it could be a ticking time bomb.
How much will your insurance cost for a Mustang?
Does the previous owner have the service receipts?
Do the tires match? Does he have a clean title in hand?
If it's a dealership, is there any guarantee, or is it sold "AS IS"?
The more you look into it beforehand, the better off you will be. Let your dad use this as a "teachable moment", to show off to you how much he knows and can pass on to you. What the heck, you're going to get a car out of it.
You can buy it and you can go for long tour
Yes bro its a very good car. Love this car
Buy it man! And then go drifting…
In 1998, they used a pushrod 3.8 in the V6 Mustang. That engine is known to blow out head gaskets and also has issued with crankshaft bearings. Avoid anything with the 3.8. The 4.6 V8 in that year of Mustangs, as well as the later 4.0 and 3.7L V6s, are much more reliable.
I say pass on this one, just based on the fact it's a 3.8L car.
Its good car for woman
- Is a Mustang a good first car? I'm a 16 year old male and I'm going to get a car when I get my license. My dad texted me and told me this might be my first car. The car is a 1998 Ford Mustang. It has the 3.8L V6 with a 5-speed manual transmission. I don't know how to drive a manual. The car has 180,000 miles. It's burgundy with a gray cloth interior. It has a dual exhaust and Mustang GT rims. Is it a bad idea? My grampa has a 2000 Ranger that he said I can take any time.
- Is a Ford Mustang v6 2006 a good first car? I'm a new driver and looking to get my first car and I've always had a thing for Mustangs so I figured I night as well get one I first fell in love with which happens to be the v6 2006. Not a really pricey car But is it a good first car?
- Is a 2005-07 Ford Mustang a good first car for a guy? I'm 15 and getting my permit soon. I want to have a car for practice so I was thinking of getting a little Pontiac g6 to practice on and when I feel like I've progressed to maybe get a 2005-07 mustang! Good idea or no? Please give your thoughts. You can also tell me other good cars but no camrys or civics (not into them).
- I'm in high school and about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car So far I have looked into ford mustangs, I have a choice between a 2007 ford mustang gt with a 8 cylinder motor with automatic transmission, or I can get a 2013 mustang v6. My question is which of the two cars is a faster and louder car cause I would like to show it off and have heads turn by its engine as I drive off on the street. Thank you very much about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car?
