Is a Mustang a good first car?
I'm a 16 year old male and I'm going to get a car when I get my license. My dad texted me and told me this might be my first car. The car is a 1998 Ford Mustang. It has the 3.8L V6 with a 5-speed manual transmission. I don't know how to drive a manual. The car has 180,000 miles. It's burgundy with a gray cloth interior. It has a dual exhaust and Mustang GT rims. Is it a bad idea?
Added (1). My grampa has a 2000 Ranger that he said I can take any time.
Bro definitely get the Mustang but get one with a v8. Don't get something lame or your only gonna be driving around chicks that just wanna be friends.
I think a Mustang will be a great first car. If you need snow tires, get them, your car will go through snow amazingly. With snow tires, you want the narrowest tire that is the same height.
Get something with less power and decent handing. The stick is a good idea. I got my kid his first stick on Monday. I gave him an hour of instruction that night, and another 2 hours yesterday, and he's driving solo already. He has a lot to learn to get it more smooth, but he's doing fine, and driving a stick makes you a more engaged driver.
The stock 3.8L V6 for 1998 Mustang is pretty tame, but the car is rear-wheel drive. This makes a very big difference if you happen to live in an area where there will be a few months of ice and snow on the road. I have the model that is one year newer than the one you mentioned, but as soon as it starts snowing, I put it away and drive a front-wheel drive Chevy. It is not too difficult to learn how to use a manual transmission, but the fun-factor will be reduced if you're in a high traffic, urban area. I have seen plenty of 4th generation Mustangs that kept right on going after 200,000 miles; all trims are sturdy and reliable and fairly easy to fix when something breaks. However, my first consideration would be to take a look at my area's winter and traffic conditions because it the Mustang is a nightmare on icy roads and manuals can be a nuisance in stop-and-go traffic.
As a first car… Very bad idea. Get some experience under your belt before you drive a performance car like a Mustang, it isn't a very good learning vehicle. The manual transmission will be a complication initially, but if you really like it you'll get the hang of it quickly; my two sons both love driving manuals now!
I think mustang is very expensive car.So you can think about any other one
If you want to drive around and attract attention like people pointing and laughing, the a V6 Mustang would be a fine first car.
No. Most accidents/ car deaths are between 16 and 27. Your insurance would also be sky high.
Your Dad needs to give his head a shake.
Buy a cheap 'beater' that is insurable.
That way you only have 'UP' to look forward to.

- I'm in high school and about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car So far I have looked into ford mustangs, I have a choice between a 2007 ford mustang gt with a 8 cylinder motor with automatic transmission, or I can get a 2013 mustang v6. My question is which of the two cars is a faster and louder car cause I would like to show it off and have heads turn by its engine as I drive off on the street. Thank you very much about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car?
