I want to buy a 2000 Ford Mustang with 190000 miles am I an idiot?

Cosmetically this car is flawless, also seems to drive perfectly normal, but am I an idiot to think that it will get me through at least the next 5 years?

Actually, dropping a 'new' engine into a rear-drive car like that isn't that big of a deal, or expense.

I would avoid it… There are too many cars (especially mustangs) available that have way less miles

'Am I an idiot?'

I guess it depends on how much you are planning on paying for it.

Expecting to get 5 years out of a 16 year old car with almost 200K on the clock already is pretty ambitious, especially when you didn't put any of those miles on it yourself. No you're not an idiot - you had the sense to ask. Idiots don't ask the question.

Not quite an idiot but certainly on the border. This car is not going to give you another 5 years without massive costs.

Next five years. No. Itll cost you insane amounts of money to keep it running. A honda or toyota no problem an old ford, wouldnt buy with anything over 60,000 miles

No but apparently not knowing the high ammount of money a car with 190000miles will soon cost when replaceing the wear out parts like clutch, wheel-bearings, suspensions, brakes etc., the clutch replacment alone costs $6000.
btw, someone who was really an i., wouldnt even notice to ask about it but be full of pride.

Yes. Get it inspected by a mechanic you pay for. It's nearly worn out. Don't buy a money pit.

It will not get you 5 years down the road without putting expensive parts and labor into it. Most likely timing chain, new intake gaskets, and other few parts if. You do it yourself than save on labor

Yes, never get a newer mustang, get a 60s, 70s, or 80s mustang!
