Driving cammed 2010 mustang Gt without tune?

I just installed some Ford hot rod camshafts in my 2010 mustang GT and also have shorty headers, a cold air intake, cat back exhaust, and 24 lb ford racing injectors and was wondering if it is safe to drive for 2 weeks without a tune, my dyno appointment isn't until the 22nd, it does run and drive fine just don't know if i can mildly drive it for now

If it runs fine, why are you asking?

I would have it tuned. If you're not very mechanically inclined you could run the engine too hard if you didn't set up the cams right. The intake and exhaust change the back pressure a lot. Just don't take it to redline

Ideally no, but if you take it easy, you will probably be fine.

Here's the real deal: If that car does not use stock wideband O2 sensors, on cold engine operation, and heavy throttle (acceleration) the O2 sensor is not used to modify fuel trim. Since you increased the lb/hr of the injectors, you richened the mix across the board, then you changed the airflow through the cam and headers, which will lean the engine out. My suspicion is that you will still show lean under heavy throttle until tuned, which of course is very dangerous if you don't take it very easy.

When you get your dyno appointment, you will remember these words: just because it FEELS like it runs fine, when it is hooked up to the appropriate instruments, you will see that it is NOT fine. Guaranteed the tune will increase power a large amount. A lean running engine can feel like it's running ok, but it's not.

  • Why is my '98 Ford windstar is running rough after a tune up? I changed out the plugs and wires and it ran good for a day or two but has a lot of hesitation at lower rpms but if I speed up it goes away. Also have a gas smell in my air conditioning when I'm stopped but not while driving. Can anyone help? I'm tired of putting money in this thing.
  • 2007 Ford Taurus SE Tune Up? I have a 07 Ford Taurus SE and I want to get a tune up done. What all parts do I need to have a full tune up done? I already have spark plus and wires is there anything else I need to have a full tune up done?
  • On a 2000 ford ranger, will driving it without a catalytic converter cause valve issues? My ford ranger has had the cat removed (not by me!) and it is causing an O2 sensor code, of course, and an overly rich exhaust and poor fuel milage. Now, I know it needs fixed and I will when I get the time to get it to a muffler shop, but my question is, will driving it for a little while right now cause any valve trouble or any damage elsewhere?
  • What does I tune up consist of for a 2005 Ford Mustang GT? I own a 2005 Ford Mustang GT and I never got any service records from the car lot it was bought from or any service records from previous owners so now I'm looking at possibly having to do a tune up on my car and I need to know what a tune up for my car consists of. I want to know what is changed and done in a tune up. I already changed the oil in it and all that's left is the tune up. Serious answers only please. Provide links if possible.
