Best way to clean rims on a 2001 ford mustang gt?

So I'm cleaning my dad's mustang in the summer for a huge car show… I already have the automotive soap, quick detailer, carnauba wax, claybar etc… But no rim cleaner because I'm sorta on a budget now that I spent a bunch… What would you do to clean the hell out of some rims? Should I wash the rims, clay bar, then wax?

Soap, water, scrub, rinse, done. Much of the 'dirt' is brake dust, which will come off with a bit of soapy water and a soft bristle brush. Detail with a toothbrush, and if you want, a little baking soda and water works wonders to bring back the clarity on glass and clear plastic lenses. In most cases, you don't need or want wax on the rims / wheels. A little baking soda or powder cleanser works well to brighten the white lettering on the tires.

Don't use tire black on the rubber - it will come off on clothing, if someone casually brushes them, and can ruin dresses, or good clothes. An idiot used some on his car for a prom date and totally ruined their evening.

Same way as cleaning any other rims. Toothbrush.

Treat them with care: if they are chromed mags, the chrome is easily polished off. Some have what looks like a brushed finish - which is just paint and also easily damaged. And even an alloy wheel that looks like there's no additional finish is usually coated with a clearcoat.

Get some mag wheel cleaner - follow the directions. Use a soft tooth brush and nothing abrasive. Yes - a real pain… So once they're clean, keep-up with them so a quick wash with soapy water will do.
