1968 Mustang convertible?
I own a a 1968 Mustang convertible with only 75 k miles. It has the original interior, carpet and original engine. I obtained a build sheet and the car is equipped with a 200 six with power steering, light group and a power top. The original radio still work.It also has the turn signals inset into the hood. I'm wanting to convert it to a 289 V8 engine. How difficult is the conversion and by doing this would I destroy the value of the car? I know the six is not the most desirable engine.

The conversion isn't that difficult, BUT you'll also need to replace the rear axle as the rear axle for the six isn't up to taking the torque from a 289 or other V8. The V8 axle tube will have larger brake drums and require larger wheels also. To match everything up you'll need to replace the front backing plates and upsize the front brakes to match the rear. The good news is it doesn't require replacing the front suspension components (as the 65,66 & 67 do) since Ford used the same front suspension for the 6 & V8 cars starting in '68. As to the value yeah converting it destroys it. If it was a coupe I'd say go for it but with a convertible i'd think long and hard before I'd swap, especially if the engine is original. If the engine serial number matches the VIN consecutive numbers it's the original and adds a bit of value. The convertibles are a lot more desirable in original condition regardless of engine while the coupe as a 6 or a conversion doesn't really change much in value. Motor mounts, transmission, driveshaft, exhaust, other minor hardware. Yes, the value of the car will go down. Keep the old parts or sell that and buy another with a V8. You can find complete kits to do this job on the Internet. I don't agree that it will decrease value, because a 6 cylinder Mustang takes a big hit on value to begin with. So with a V8 you are making the car much more desirable to buyers. The reason you got a good deal on your Mustang was because of the 6 cylinder engine.
Besides, they made a boatload of these models and so it isn't a rare car. I agree 100% with Mustanger. I had another question about my Mustang if anybody would like to weigh in. The seat belts have this silver roller on each on the front seat belts? What does this do? Itseems like it is a roller attached to the front seat belts? Someone told me that it was an option for 1968.It has an automatic transmission. Is it a c4? Have no clue. Roller? Is that the think that allow adjustment to tighten of the belt? Also to add. The V8 rear axle are 5 lugs vs 4 on the L6. It is recommend to change to front coil and rear springs to a heavier V8 unit. At least I would do it. I would update the brakes too if it has not already being done. What do you mean not desirable? That was the original Mustang motor. It wouldn't ruin the value too much AT ALL!

- Where is the phone speaker for a bluetooth on a 2010 Ford Mustang convertible? I have a 2010 mustang and I can't find the phone speaker inside my 2010 ford mustang. I have seen where it is in other convertibles but can't find it in mine. And ppl are having trouble hearing me.
- Where can I find a repair manual for a 6 cylinder, 1968 Ford Mustang? Haynes manuals only cover V8's and I haven't heard much good about the Chilton variety. Anyone have any good references for repairing/restoring a 68 mustang with a straight six engine? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
- Weatherstripping on my 1992 Mustang LX convertible? I own a 1992 Mustang LX convertible. The weatherstripping is dried out and rain is getting though the seals. I searched for weatherstripping kits and they are $400 and up, which I think is a ridiculous price. I assume that I'll have to buy the convertible top weatherstripping from Ford, but will it be ok to use off brand on my doors and etc? Should I spend the extra cash on Ford made weatherstripping or will an off brand do just as well? Thanks guys! Feel free to throw in any random tips
- Too Good to be true? 1997 Ford Mustang Convertible? I'm interested in buying a 1997 6 Cylinder Ford Mustang Convertible for $1500. The car runs very cleanly and it has like approx. 136,000 miles on it. The only problem is that it has been sitting in the sellers backyard for like 5 years. Could it sitting for that length of time have caused any major malfunctions that should prevent me from buying it? The seller has also said that the car has a new transmission if that helps any.
