How long for a dealership trade?

I'm wanting to trade in my lease for another lease. For my first two leases, I was not picky with the color and took what the dealership had in stock. This time, I decided to get the color I wanted, even though it wasn't in stock. The dealership (it is a Ford dealership if that makes a difference) has one on order, but it is not expected in until mid-may. I'm over in milage and would like to cut it down since I'm just going to pay off the milage, so they said they would just do a dealer trade with another dealership for the car I want. I was told I would get a call back on Monday with the progress, which is fine, but out of curiosity since I have never done this, typically how long does it take? Has anyone had any experiences with a dealership swap through Ford before?

Depends on WHERE they find a car that meets your specs. If it's just down the road in the next city, it could be there tomorrow, but if they have to ship it across country, it could take a few weeks.

Depends on where the car is located. It must be transported or driven from there to your dealer. If it's close, it might take a couple of days. If it's far away, it could take a couple of weeks. Because the dealer incurs costs to do these kinds of swaps, don't expect to negotiate a special deal for this car.

You will never build wealth doing this over and over.

  • Want to trade in my mustang for corolla but still paying it off? I own a 2006 ford mustang and i still owe around $8,000 in financing it. I wanted to trade it in for a newer (maybe 2009) toyota corolla for around $9,000. Would this be stupid to do, considering i still owe money on my mustang? Or after the trade in value will the remaining balance just bounce over to my corollas balance?
