Power steering oil level cause a ford ka to stall?

I have a 2001 1.3 manual ford ka petrol. I was driving around and after ten minuets I noticed the car was sticking occasionally when changing gear and every now and then would go to stall when stopping/pulling away. Told my dad, he put it down to me having a light foot. However he took it out and it did the same thing. One we got home we noticed a sizeable puddle of red oil on the floor, which when taken to the garage found out it was power steering fluid. I asked them to check the clutch as well and they said everything checks out fine. My question really is can no/low levels of power steering fluid cause the stalling symptoms?

Power steering pump would not cause engine problems, if the pump is seizing up then the drive belt was break and you would have heavy steering.

Try to do a search on Google, maybe that will work out

If the power steering pump is badly worn or or partially seized then it may be able to put enough load on the engine to cause the revs to drop sufficiently for it to stall, but it shouldn't do it when you're not steering. Do the revs drop a lot when the car is stationary and you turn the wheel?

If there's a leak of PAS fluid then that needs sorting before it gets worse, you may find the power assistance disappears completely if it fails altogether.

No the PS fluid level has zero effect on the engine running or not

In my MG the leaking power steering rack just made the car have stiff steering. But it seems like there may be an issue with the power steering pump itself.

Hi this has more to do with this cars age and the miles it has covered. Old and near to being worn out.

  • My 2001 ford taurus acts like it wants to stall when in park? Also it idles very low like and hesitates. The rpm gage fluctuates up and down fast.in real hot weather it starts but dies in park but will start back up in about 10 minutes.
  • After driving Ford Ranger, high mileage, 10 miles and at normal operating temp, I park overnight on level concrete floor. I check oil level? Next day before starting and when I pull dipstick out, oil level is at full mark. I wipe the dipstick clean and re-insert and check oil level again, the oil level is down about 1/8th inch or so. I check it once more and get same reading. Is the crankcase full or do I need to add some oil? Just to be clear, since this is an older Ranger with over 170,000 miles, I use high mileage oil and I check the oil level regularly. It doesn't use oil after just 10 miles of driving.
  • How to top my oil level up? Hi, this is probably an obvious thing to most people but it is my first car so haven't got a clue. I have checked my ford ka's oil level against min / max on dipstick. It is below the minimum. I have brought some oil, do i literally just take the cap off with the oil sign on and pour the oil in?
  • Does it make a difference if you check the oil level on a uphill driveway? 2003 Ford F150 xlt 5.4 v8 125 000 miles Some one checked it on a uphill driveway 5 minutes after driving for 30 minutes and said it was 3 quarts low… Common sense tells me it's going to give a bad reading but for the sake of this person to understand why from the mechanical community please explain why… Thanks for your info…
