Is 1297cc engine size too big for a first time driver?

I have found a ford ka that I like but the engine is 1297cc and my dad thinks that its too big. Is it too big for a first time driver? Is a 1297cc a 1.3?

I would suggest that a Ford KA is an ideal first car.

You can do better than the ford ka… Its the worst rusting ford for the last 25 years… Honda jazz is good.Nissan micra. Even a polo… Check your insurance cost before you buy

No, that would be very small and dangerously slow when passing other cars.

the video below shows the ford ka in a crash test, it crumbles like a tin can but that is only the older ford ka version, its not only about safety in a crash, its about built quality too, a car that crumbles like that is built in to low quality and not sturdy. If it is a later ford ka version, then it will be sturdier and safer in crashes.

I. Say no. You don't want a powerful sports car for your first drive. But most any regular 4 cyl car is sensible for a new driver.

My wife's first car was was a 3.0l Toyota SUV. Because it was a large car it wasn't crazy fast and perfectly sensible to drive.

Also don't just judge a car on the CC rating. A highly tuned 1.3 turbo in a small can can be much faster than a larger 2.0 (but heavier) 2.0 litre car.

Not sure where you live, but 1.3 - 2.0 would be a sensible sized first car here, depending on the size of the vehicle.

Displacement alone means very little. Other factors include weight, aerodynamics, and gearing.

But going by only engine size, my first car had a 1.5L engine but it's output was less than 70 HP. It was fast enough to keep up with highway traffic but it did not offer much more than that.

Displacement is rounded up or down when expressed in litres. So anything between 1251 and 1350 cc would be considered a 1.3L

Hi shannon the issue will be the insurance premium you will need to pay. So contact an insurance company and ask about insurance on this car.

1297cc is equivalent to a 1.3 litre engine, and no it is not too big. And the Ford Ka is extremely unsafe because it is a small car. I don't recommend it. My first car was the Hyundai Veloster and it has a 1.6 litre engine.

No, not at all. My first vehicle had a 6.4L engine. In US you have too look hard to find a car with a displacement of less than 1.5L. The average engine size around here is about 3.0L. It's kinda funny that you dad thinks a minuscule 1.3L is "too big"

UK answer. Yes it is a 1.3.
There are cheaper insurance options.
Get some quotes on the 1.0 and the 1.3 to see the difference.
Ignore the lost Americans who do not believe you can drive a car under 3 litres.

  • Why does my ford taurus stay in first gear too long? 2000 Ford Taurus ses when I start it up the doors don't lock, the speedometer doesn't work and it stays in first gear for a while and then seemingly randomly( hot cold running a long time or just started) it'll eventually kick into the next gear the doors will lock and the speedometer will work but sometimes it takes a really long time
  • Aren't you amazed by the capabilities and the size of today's full-size pickup trucks? I drive a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT 4x2 with a 4.0 liter V6 (~245 ci.) engine. I was looking up the specs for early-mid 1960s F100s (considered full-size), and they have nearly the same GVWR, towing capacity, payload, horsepower, wheelbase, and height as my "compact" truck. In your opinion, do you think today's full-size trucks are amazing or too fancy/over-sized (a traditionalist like me)? P.S.: I like all American vehicles
  • Help this first time driver? I need all your opinions here. Ford Mustang or dodge charger? And why did you pick what you did? Good things about each?
  • Would a ford fusion be a good car for a first time driver like me? This would be my first car I ever had and I don't know how to drive yet but I'm gonna take driving lesson before I even get a car PS I already have my learner permit
