Filling my car with petrol?
I'm just concerned because my one of my mums friends told me that always filling up your car with half a tank of fuel does the car no good?
Well since I been driving and had my car 4 months a ford ka, I've never let it go past half a tank of fuel should I let it go to empty then fill up? :-/
Nothing to worry about at all. True, the more fuel you have in the tank the more weight the car has to carry around but that is no problem unless you fret about obtaining the last fraction of a mile per gallon.
I, like lanab has said, keep at least half a tank too so I can use the car at the drop of a hat without having to worry about going to find fuel first if I have an urgent journey to make or if the petrol station is out of service.
I'd carry on like you are doing.
Half a tank is a bit much but there's some truth to the story. Fuel pumps need fuel in the tank to lubricate the moving parts in the pump. So once the tank gets to below 1/4 tank the pump MAY begin to strain and this once or twice or a half dozen times won't do a thing but over time this does cause fuel pumps to fail. Also this idea stems from JUST incase something happens no fuel at service stations natural disasters blah blah blah.
Makes no differece to the car at all.
I prefer to keep my car over 1/2 full. Just in case of natural disaster. Storm, power cut, earthquake etc. Could happen, and you have no fuel, and can't get any more. Got 1/2 a tank, you can still use your car.
Completely wrong. It's running out of fuel that may cause issues as any wTer or dirt particles can get sucked into fuel filter etc causing issues.
Quarter tank or just under is best area to refuel.
If we drive in aras with good refuelling services available then carrying extra fuel around us detrimental to overall cost effectiveness.
I've been driving for some 40 years and don't think I've ever heard that one. I can't see why it would make any difference unless your car has gunk settled at the bottom of the fuel tank and running on very low would disturb the gunk and get it into your fuel line - which all sounds unlikely.
That's superstitious nonsense probably made up by someone conning their offspring into paying for a full tank of fuel.
The fuller the tank, the less moisture can enter. This is very important during Winter months.
Do not let it go below 1/4 that way you do not drag the muck through from the tank
If like me you do short distances then fill to 1/2 - 3/4 above that and it is extra weight and with 24hr filling stations now you can top up any time

- White smoke coming from exhaust, Ford Zetec 1999 petrol? I have no other problems with the car, it has 1/2 tank petrol, and oil. At first I thought it may be the cold but, it happens too often for that.
- Smell of Petrol after driving my car? After driving my car Ford Laser came home and parked in the garage and could smell petrol outside on left side of car only. Checked hoses, petrol cap etc could not see any leaks. Tightened the petrol cap went for a drive and could not smell anything after I came home. Why is this happening? Just had had a new radiator and service completed recently.
- My 1996 ford ranger will not start right away after filling up with gas? I turn the key and the starter just keeps trying to catch but engine never does. I've replaced the fuel filter, fuel lines and sensor in the fuel tank. Spark plugs and wires, alternator, timing belt, starter and battery are all less than a year old. I don't let the gas tank get below a quarter of a tank.
- 2001 ford ranger xlt fuel filling problem? Every time I go and try to fill my gas tank, the pump shuts off and a lot of gas shoots out. Anybody know what the problem could be? I tried the forums but not getting any luck as to most people has this problem but don't know what it could be
