Is my car fine to drive with with the rotors like this?

First off I have a 1999 Ford Contour SE with ABS. When I brake, the brake pedal pulses and the car shudders. Yesterday I measured the rotors and this is what I found (the tone rings looked fine so I'm not worried about that). Also the lug nuts were definitely over-torqued because I could barely break them lose and we figured out it only needed to be torqued to 62 which was easy. Could the over torquing could have caused it?

Passenger front rotor
Runout.004
Thickness.869.867

Driver side front
Runout.0025
Thickness.863.862

Is it safe? It doesn't bother me that much that it pulses and shudders but I just want to get somone elses opinions.

I don't know what judder is but disc brake shudder means the pads aren't making consistent contact with the disc. My best guess is the disc was over-heated and warped at some time. After making sure your lug-nuts are properly torqued you may find that you need the disc ground or even replaced. They aren't that expensive and are easily replaced.

I read flagmichael's link about Judder and I find absolutely no mention of lug nut torque as a cause of Judder. But, sooner or later the judder will cause failure of the lugs and you risk a wheel coming off. No one can predict when.

Overtorquing is top of the list for the judder; I have had much less trouble with judder since making a point of always using a torque wrench on wheels with disk brakes. It is safe to drive either way, just unpleasant. Your tire will not fall off from that… I have no idea where that came from.

The first source is the best single writeup I have seen on disk brake judder.

I'd definitely only stick to city streets. Avoid freeways or highways until you can get it fixed. Otherwise, when your tire falls off (which it will eventually do) you'll get into one helluva accident. Don't want that.

  • Why did Trump say of Dr. Ford: I thought her testimony was very compelling, looks like a very fine woman and was a very credible witness? I thought her testimony was very compelling, and she looks like a very fine woman to me. A very fine woman. It was incredible. It was an incredible moment, I think, in the history of our country. But certainly she was a very credible witness. She was very good in many respects. https://www.c-span.org/video/?452222-1/president-trump-reacts-calls-delaying-vote-kavanaugh-nomination
  • P0300 Code on Ford Taurus but car runs fine? Hi, i have a 2006 ford taurus, only has 55,000 miles on her, and all of the sudden this code popped up on me today. The car had been driving fine, and still does. Definitely have not felt it missfire or buck at all. Despite a small exhaust leak, everything on the car is in great condition and has been running great. Should i be worried and does it need a fix?
  • What causes a car to jump in reverse when all forward gears are fine? I once owned a 1967 Ford Mustang (sure wish I still had it!) with a 289 ci w/2 bbl and factory 3 speed on the floor. I bought it used with 100k miles. It acted fine in forward gears but when I put it in reverse, It "jumped" as long as I was moving. I changed out the clutch and pressure plate twice but it didn't help. Could it have been that the fly wheel needed balancing (by grinding) or something else?
  • I have 1998 Ford Windstar as of now when I put in drive/reverse it won't move. It just revs. The car starts up fine? It started while I was driving down the road and I pressed the gas to go a little faster and my rpm went up to 4 and went down. I have an automatic too. There's no burnt smell in my transmission fluid stick/tank. I just left the gas station before this happened if that helps. Any ideas? Someone suggest my second/reverse band and I have never heard of it.
