Is it impossible for any charges against Donald Trump to stick simply because he would resign and President Pence would pardon him?
Mike Pence has been 100 percent loyal to Trump and has had his back every step of the way.
If Trump resigned or were impeached, Mike Pence would be more of a shoe-in to pardon Trump than Gerald Ford ever was for Nixon.
And that's the thing about the federal system. You don't actually have to be convicted of a crime in order to be pardoned, the way you do in most State systems.
In fact, to receive a Presidential Pardon, you don't even have to be CHARGED.
Hence, Gerald Ford was able to pardon Nixon for "all possible charges related to the Watergate incident" despite the fact Nixon had not yet been charged with a crime.
That eliminates the possibility of Prosecutors simply waiting until Pence is out of office before charging Trump. Pence will have had Trump covered in advance.
Being impeached doesn't mean getting kicked out of office.
There will be no charges
Oh lord
That only works on federal charges. The state of New York can file charges as well under their separate investigation.
You do have to have a charge first. Got any? What would that be? It is amazing that the Obama administration in general and Hillary, in particular, have huge crimes and corruption within the government and you don't understand it because the news media lies to you.
That's kind of a moot question since it will never happen and charges will never be brought.
Since there's no crime there's no need to pardon
No
Pence has Ford's example.
Would Pence fall on his sword that way? President for a year and then an election which he'd lose?
Or would he let Trump twist in the wind, knowing all the crazier Trumpsters would vote for him anyways?
Yes
- Would the most patriotic thing all those around the President could do be to completely ignore all his commands and attempt to convince him? To resign for the good of the country? Then, Pence could pardon him for all crimes (just like Ford pardoned Nixon) and the country will be safe once again.
- If Trump and Pence both resign could President Pelosi appoint Hillary to the vice-presidency with Senate approval? Keep in mind President Nixon appointed Gerald Ford to the vice-presidency. Later President Ford appointed Nelson Rockefeller to the vice-presidency!
- How did Ford pardon Nixon when the US Constitution says presidents can't pardon for impeachment? "The President… Shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment." There's only one exception to pardons: impeachment. There's no exception that says "and also if the impeachment was not yours". So it's a fragrant violation of the US Constitution.
- Does Bill Weld's candidacy for president mean Donald Trump will lose re-election? Gerald Ford lost the 1976 election to Jimmy Carter after Ronald Reagan challenged him in the Republican primary. Carter lost re-election to Reagan in 1980 after he was challenged in the Democratic primary by Ted Kennedy. George H.W. Bush lost re-election to Bill Clinton in 1992 after Pat Buchanan challenged him in the Republican Party. Will Trump face the same fate because of Weld's candidacy?
