Is ford Capri 2.8 injection good first car?
Looking at ones for about £7000 with about 70000 miles
Would it be reliable?
If not, is it easy/expensive to keep going?
No.
Not even slightly.
I realise you think it looks cool but old cars need looking after either by professional garages who charge £100+ an hour, or people with a shed full of tools and the years of experience that you won't have yet.
Won't be reliable or cheap, have you investigated the cost of insurance yet? You're in for a shock…
I told you yesterday…
NO, DON't BE STUPID
Are you going to keep asking the same question every day until you end up getting a fiesta or corsa?
Haha just noticed you are only 15/16… Keep dreaming kid, go out and play, get a girlfriend etc etc THEN when your old enough to drive you may have more common sense and will end up getting a little 1lt shopping trolley.
If you are a young driver it will be very expensive if not impossible to insure a 2.8i
No, not suitable, the long bonnet makes safe driving difficult at junctions.
Insurance will be prohibitive. Capris were the among the most stolen cars when current, and can't have got any harder.
Even the youngest Capri is over 27 years old and likely have suffered from rust and been repaired many times,
Fuel consumption is also a problem, you would expect less than 20mpg!
They were not great cars when new.
Old cars need a lot of work to keep going and the 2.8i was expensive on fuel when new.
You get to know the staff at your local filling station very well. Expect at best 17mpg.
Parts are now difficult and they are best as weekend cars.
The insurance for a daily driver will be high.
Engine wise it's had an unstressed life, the 2.8 is large and powerfull for the 1200kg of car it has to move.
But it is 30+ years old and will need maintenance and by maintenance, i mean maintenance like full engine/gearbox rebuild, the parts are on back order, welding in short it may need costly repairs.
It's a ford so it's gonna break down the second you drive it so no
My first car was a ford zx2 with a 2.8. Same motor as a capri but different body. They are very reliable and rarely break down, BUT when they do break down it is very costly. If you keep an eye on your fluids and keep up with maintenance, it should last you to about the 275000 mile mark or beyond. My car had 298000 and was still running when I sold her.
- Where is the fuel pump on a 1975 ford/mercury capri 2.3? I had to work on my car late and I had a hard time finding it I just bought the manual for the car but it hast to come in the mail just want some help when I get back to it this morning.
- About to get a 73 ford capri 2.8 V6 any help on what parts and can buy to make it an all together better car? I'm just trying to think of parts to get for it be more reliable my friends already told me cold intake, duel exhaust but I want to go a little deeper but anything helps also I'll be using the highway alot. I plan on turning it into 5speed right know it's a 4 speed manual. I'm going to be driving it alot so anything that helps I might swap the engine but knew someone when swapped it with a 5.0 mustang engine but it twisted the frame
- Which car is a good first car? I'm a 16 year old guy and I'm currently looking for a car. I'm used to driving trucks and SUVs. The height helps avoid bumps. I don't want to sit on the ground. I need 4WD for the winter. I found 3 SUVs that I'm really interested in. -2000 Ford Explorer XLT -2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer -2005 Ford Expedition Limited -1999 Lincoln Navigator Which one is best? Which one should I get and why?
- America's oldest car company FORD is losing $1B and plans to lay off 24,000 Americans who have good jobs, good pay, good benefits, pensions? Do you think that if the NEWEST TAX CUTS (slipped into the latest Medicare Bill last week) for the richest were LIMITED to only $320B instead of $321B, and just give the damn money to FORD instead, would AMERICA COLLAPSE because the Richest 1 percent COULDN'T INVEST in #MAGA?
