I have a 1985 Ford 5.0 roller engine, but it isn't an H.O. What the heck have I?

It's casting number is E5AE.
It's got the old firing order (1.5.4.2.6.3.7.8)
It's got the CFI carb fuel injection thing. Well, did. I put an Edelbrock intake on it and a 1405 600 CFM carb.
While I had the intake off, I found a spider attachment, lifter stabilizers, and rollers on the lifters. I was happy to find it was a roller motor.
But what the hell is it out of?!
The guy I got it from thought it was from a Lincoln. What do you guys think?

It's just a standard 302. Roller lifters were new for 1985, and all 85 and newer 302s were roller engines, not just the H.O.s.

Well two things came to mind for me. One could be very likely and the other not as much. Could be a Mustang engine which is very likely and then the other which is unlikely but the unusual description could mean it was an experimental engine, for even maybe the RS2000

Thunderbirds and pickups didn't have the HO motor. The HO started in 83 way before the roller lifters, so that's not a factor. Yours should have this casting number 1985E5AE-6010-HA

I found this on a old forum.
"one of the fastest give aways for a HO is the factory headers. You just would need to make sure they were what came with the car from the factory. The next give away is the aluminum valve cover. I've never seen a 302 with factory aluminum covers unless they were on a boss motor or HO. The next option is to check the firing order which should be
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 which is due to the different Cam that is in there. Plain 302's are 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 (same as the 289)."

  • This isn't normal but nobody knows what it is? I drive a 2002 Ford Foucus SE with 2.0 spi. My car will downshift randomly but only when the ac is on. When the ac is on my interior and exterior ;ights flicker, and my engiene idles at about 450-500 rpm. I have replaced the idle air control valve, ecm, ac compressor, alternator and battery. I'm very unsure of what this could be. I took the car to ford for a full point inspection and to have the car scanned. They said nothing showed.
