How to make my '67 ford 352 v8 rumble more and idle more rough?
So I have flowmaster super 10's on it, I've lowered the idle to about 650-700 rpm. It just doesn't sound like I want it to. I want it I sound more drag car like. More like a race engine. Is there anything I can do?
Sorry Mike, your camshaft pick is all wrong. You need something with a single pattern, and a 108 or 110 degree lobe centers (or lobe separation angle- LSA)… Something in the neighborhood of 214 to 220 degrees intake duration. This will close the exhaust valve earlier and allow the engine to begin building cylinder pressure. On a street engine (below 5,800-6,000 RPM) it's all about torque, and cylinder pressure is a buildiing block for bottom end torque and throttle response. This combination of lobe separation and duration should put you where you wanna be in terms of idle, it should accelerate well given the proper converter and gearing for the weight of your vehicle.
Crane's 272 H10 or 266 H10 would work well and not leave you needing a high stall converter.
Sorry, not gonna happen without changing the cam. The 352 was built as a low RPM torque engine and cam selection will be critical. An R/V or towing grind would be best, but may not give you the idle that you are looking for.Go for something with a split duration/lift favoring the exhaust side.
So you want to destroy the powerband of the engine just to get a lopey idle?
- 2007 Ford Taurus rough idle and dies of I don't put my foot on the gas? I have a 2007 Ford Taurus that has a very rough idle but once I get to 30 miles per hour or so everything is fine. Since this started my battery is always dead when I go to start my car. I've replaced the ignition coil and the wires cause autozone said that was the problem. But it still is acting the same way. The car dies when in idle and I don't know what else to do. Any help is appreciated.
- Why does my Ford Ranger start rough idle when engine is hot? I have a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 with 4.0 litre SOHC engine, it starts good when cold, but I get a rough idle start when the truck was already used and heated up. Engine diagnostics show nothing, I changed the air filter a month ago, changed platinum plugs and plug wires last year, regular oil and filter changes been done. I'm running out of ideas on the cause of this rough idle. Any suggestions, please answer.
- Ford Ranger 4.0, 172,000 miles rough idle when starting after sitting overnight or after 2-3 hours. Starts 1st crank, idles rough 1 minute? Or so and then smooths out and runs fine. New heads and gaskets. Cleaned MAF sensor, throttle body and air intake sensor, new IAC valve, new air and fuel filters, new PCV valve. No smoke coming from exhaust and No check engine light. Any ideas what's causing this rough idle?
- 96 ford ranger rough idle 96 ford ranger struggles to start, after starting it will do one of 2 things idle rough and struggle and die upon applying throttle, or it will idle and sputter out and die on its own, I have no codes coming up, and the fuel pump is good along with fuel pressure
