How to fix a misfire problem on a 302 Ford?

I have a 1970 Torino with a BOSS 302 and the number 6 cylinder(2nd cylinder from the firewall on the passenger side) is misfiring. I replaced the spark plugs, the spark plug wires, ignition coil, distributor(cap and rotor) and its still misfiring. It's always been that same cylinder since I bought the car a few months ago. I don't know if it has compression or it the valves are messed up, but when I took the wire off of the spark plug, it was sparking as the engine was running.

As you now know from throwing random parts at the problem, you can't fix it without actually knowing what the problem is and you won't get anything more than random suggestions from anyone here without running the proper diagnostics. Run a compression test. If it fails, run a leakdown test, else check for a flat cam.

Make sure you don't have a vacuum leak, which can cause a misfire, and start checking internal parts.

Pistons/rings (compression) valves (adjustment, burned valve) and in some rare cases, a bad camshaft can kill a cylinder's performance.

What you have is called a dead cylinder. First do a compression check, If compression is good go directly to the cylinder head A leak down test can tell you if the valve are bad There could even be a crack in the head itself usually it comes down to low compression or bad valves or both sometimes If compression is low there's only way to fix that and that is tear it down, and since your there already.99.9% of the people out there would just rebuild it When you pull #6 plug is it oil fouled, or carbon fouled. Are you gapping the plugs correctly you never said the mileage of your ford. Basically the problem lies either in the cylinder head or the rings themselves if its the original engine do not core it for a rebuilt unit Rebuild the original if you can

Do a compression check. It sounds like you have burned valves or other mechanical problem with that cylinder.

Do a compression check on that cylinder.

Chk/Rep compression Test Do Accordingly.

Compression check dry then wet. Need fuel fire and oxygen under compression. Without these it will misfire. Low compression can be bad valve, rings, head gasket, lifter, and a few other less likely culprits

You have the firing order wrong the way you described it.

Sorry slick, but cylinder 6 is the 3rd from the firewall!

The 2nd from the firewall is cylinder 7. And the rearmost cylinder, the one that is nearest the firewall, is cylinder 8. So you probably have TWO misfiring cylinders.

5 - 6 - 7 - 8 is on the drivers side!

One cylinder head is about an inch more forward than the other (closer to the radiator). The cylinder closest to the radiator is cylinder 1.

Not sure what you are thinking. Are you trolling? Or are you thinking the Ford is like a Chevy?

Firing order: 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8

  • Car acceleration problem and idle problem. The car is a 2003 Ford Taurus? . When the car is running and in parked its making a loud consisted rev noise. However the rpm needle thingy is not moving. when i'm in drive the car acclerates on its own with the speed ever increasing. i did some googling and learned that it can be the TPS sensor or the idle air intake valve, among a million other possiblities.
  • What Ford vehicles with a 302 motor comes with a 4 barrel carb (and only comes 302 with a 4bc)? I have a 1989 mustang gt motor and I'm making it carbureted and I'm looking for any vehicle with a 302 that carries a 4b. I'm going to a junkyard where they don't help with finding vehicles, so it would be helpful to know what vehicles only have a 302 with a 4bc, that way I can look it up on the website and know exactly where its at.
  • What can I do if Ford doesn't fix my car problem? I recently bought a 2013 Ford Fiesta which has a week left of warranty. I heard a scraping noise at low speeds on the left front wheel. I took it to ford and after a day, they said they found nothing wrong and its a normal noise from the transmission. NO CAR I HAVE EVER DROVE HAS A NOISE LIKE THAT! I went to street mechanics and they all told me its not normal and it could be a faulty trans. What can i do before my warranty expires so i don't get screwed in the long run?
  • Ford Fiesta 1.2 petrol misfire on cylinder 4? Can somebody help me? I have a Ford Fiesta that's missing on just cylinder 4. I have changed the spark plugs/coil leads/injectors and Reconditioned the head! But yet there's still a misfire on cylinder 4?
