How much do you think I can buy this used car for (how to negotiate)?

This beautiful great condition 2005 Lincoln town car has been on the lot at my local ford/Lincoln dealership for about 3 months now. It has 110k miles on it and has a sunroof, back up sensors and chrome trim. The car is absolutely stunning, only thing is that there's a tiny mark on the rear bumper. It is $8000 (average price) but I asked for the car fax and this is where it got a little more iffy.

It was a rental car for 10 months (though I doubt someone would thrash a luxury rental car). Then with the second owner it was in a minor accident (no structural damage according to the report). Also it being on the lot for 3 months makes me wonder if it is worth the $8,000 price tag at all! But on the positive note it has been religiously services at the dealership throughout the second owner.

Do you think if I ask $5,000 they will take it? Does it being a formal rental and being in a accident lower its value greatly?

Alec,

You can very easily find the Lincoln's current market value and exactly what would be a fair price to pay here:

You need to find out how much the car is worth at kbb.com, Edmunds.com, and nadaguides.com. Maybe $8000 is a fair price, maybe not. However, I doubt a dealer will accept $5000 for a car that he's asking $8000 for. My guess is that this car was owned by a limo service.

I suggest you get a professional mechanic to inspect the car before you buy. A Carfax doesn't tell you much and can be incomplete, even inaccurate. You need more information about the car's actual condition, other than just how the car looks.
